Payroll Director

Job Description Airbus Commercial Aircraft is seeking a Payroll Director to join our Human Resources team in Herndon, VA. As Director of Payroll Administration, you will partner with key stakeholders to redesign, standardize, and operationalize payroll solutions for Airbus Americas and affiliates, ensuring a world‑class pay experience. Responsibilities Leadership (30%) – Overall responsibility for the payroll team’s direction, development, performance, and maintenance. Coach, mentor, and provide leadership to payroll staff to optimize operational excellence. Design and implement mandatory training for staff on existing and new systems. Recruit, orient, and train payroll team members. Foster strong business relationships with senior internal stakeholders. Project Management (25%) – Coordinate and manage integration of acquisitions for payroll purposes. Develop and maintain project plans, risk logs, and reporting. Diagnose payroll design needs and recommend efficiency improvements. Partner with team members to create procedures for unique business needs. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to manage full life‑cycle implementation of payroll, time‑off, and attendance systems. Strategy (20%) – Define and manage the strategy for payroll operations, including payroll, timekeeping, payroll tax, and payroll accounting/GL integration. Work closely with internal and external partners on strategic opportunities and enabling technologies. Critically review current practices, identify improvement opportunities, and lead change management initiatives. Compliance (20%) – Establish and maintain policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure accuracy, labor law adherence, and 100% regulatory compliance. Provide audit oversight and ensure compliance with internal and external standards. Maintain service level agreements on all payroll KPIs and protect data security and integrity. Other Duties (5%) – Perform additional responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. Minimum 10+ years of payroll experience with increasing responsibility. Minimum 15+ years of progressive HR and/or finance experience. 5+ years of leadership experience in payroll or related function. Strong experience with payroll tax and payroll implementation preferred. Experience in a multi‑functional international environment preferred. Preferred Qualifications and Certifications Master’s degree in Business Administration, Tax Law, or International Law. Certified Payroll Professional (CPP). PHR, SPHR, or SHRM certifications. Travel and Citizenship Domestic travel required (approximately 10%). Citizenship: Authorized to work in the U.S. No visa sponsorship. Physical Requirements Onsite: 100% in Herndon, VA. Must be able to see, read, and operate computer screens; hear, speak, and participate in conversations. Capability to use office equipment and occasionally lift up to 30 lbs.
