This is more than a supervisory role and it's a chance to lead with impact and help shape the future of lab services at SRHS.Position SummaryThe Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for the daily operation of the assigned section to include, planning, organizing, and directing the activities of technical and non-technical personnel to ensure optimal, cost-effective delivery of services according to department standards of quality, productivity, and performance. The supervisor will serve as a resource to identify, investigate, resolve, and monitor concerns, acting as a liaison for all levels of staff and collaborating with managers to ensure uninterrupted workflow. The Laboratory Supervisor performs various quantitative and qualitative clinical laboratory studies to comply with physician requests for analyses of blood, body fluids, and tissues, providing data for diagnosis and treatment of diseases. The supervisor must follow established laboratory standards, practices, and procedures, and understand and comply with department policies, procedures, and regulations, including Standards of Behavior. Minimum Requirements Education· Associate degree in a related fieldExperience· Five years laboratory experience within depth knowledge of laboratory operationsLicense/Registration/Certifications · Certification by an acceptable laboratory registry as a MLT, MT, MLS, HT, HTL (as applicable)Preferred RequirementsPreferred Education· Bachelor’s degree in laboratory science or a related fieldPreferred ExperienceN/APreferred License/Registration/Certifications · Acceptable laboratory registry, if applicable for the departmentCore Job Responsibilities· Provide and understand the specific communication needs of laboratory patients and families ranging from neonate-birth to geriatric.· Make decisions about sample collection and handling, perform testing of samples, and maintain accurate records and reporting of test results with knowledge of abnormal, normal and critical values. · Perform instrument maintenance, troubleshooting, and quality control. · Withstand the stress and demands of an active position while responding calmly and efficiently in crisis situations. · Work as a team member, demonstrating good interpersonal skills, follow Standards of Behavior and communicate professionally with physicians, management, and staff. · Follow established standards and practices to perform various quantitative and qualitative laboratory studies for diagnosis and treatment of disease. · Understand and comply with SRHS System and Laboratory department policies, procedures, and regulations. · Handle moderate chemical, biological, and/or low-level radiation exposure. · Possess the critical thinking skills to make decisions and use appropriate judgment. · Maintain accurate records and reporting of data. · Handle high stress situations while reacting appropriate with a calm and efficient demeanor. · May be required to perform critical tasks within special pathogens lab.· May be required to train new associates and students.· Pass a color vision test. · Perform Direct Observation per CMS guidelines. · Ensure all associates complete the annual CAP competency requirements for respective area.· Maintain in-depth technical knowledge in all areas of department and perform competently in all areas of responsibility.· Possess a high level of mental acuity with special attention to detail.· Work independently with minimal supervision.· May be required to modify hours, due to departmental needs.· Hold team members accountable and support management with staffing concerns, staff scheduling, staff coaching/mentoring and disciplinary actions as needed. · Management reserves the right to modify, add, or remove duties as necessary.
