Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Program Director/Physician - San Antonio, TX Work Arrangement Location: San Antonio, TX Salary Range: FLSA Status: Exempt Work Schedule: Baylor College of Medicine and CHRISTUS Children’s Division Overview CHRISTUS Children’s, a 240‑bed freestanding children's hospital in San Antonio, serves as a focal point for pediatric services throughout the community. In 2013, CHRISTUS Health partnered with Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) to recruit, employ, and oversee physicians and advanced practice providers at CHRISTUS Children’s. Baylor, a premier academic health science center located in the Texas Medical Center, is known for excellence in education, research, and healthcare. Division Summary The Department of Pediatrics, Division of Hematology/Oncology, seeks an outstanding Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant Physician to join our dynamic and growing team at CHRISTUS Children’s Hospital in San Antonio. The Division currently has nine physicians and three advanced practice practitioners and includes comprehensive programs in bone marrow transplant, cancer genetics, hematology & oncology, neuro‑oncology, and survivorship. Christus Children’s is the only free‑standing academic children’s hospital in South Texas. Job Duties Assignments include appointment as the BMT Program Director with a vision for growth. This clinical role provides comprehensive care to BMT service patients, both outpatient and inpatient. Responsibilities include inpatient attending time with night and weekend calls and rounds. The position manages a group of patients who are clinically complex or resource intensive, assessing, diagnosing, planning, and prescribing pharmacological and non‑pharmaceutical treatments according to established protocols. Duties also include physical and psychological assessments, diagnostic procedures, overseeing the administration of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, blood products, and supportive therapies, and coordinating all aspects of care with patients, families, and the health‑care team. Education and supervision of trainees—including fellows, residents, and advanced practice practitioners—are required. The physician will perform procedures such as bone marrow biopsy and lumbar puncture on patients as indicated, and serve as backup and consultant for physicians at Texas Children’s Cancer and Hematology Centers within our network of community hospitals. Minimum Qualifications Qualified applicants must have an MD, DO, or MD/PhD degree and be BE/BC in Hematology/Oncology. Applicants must have or will obtain a Texas medical license. Rank and appointment will be determined by the candidate’s credentials and experience.
