HSE Specialist

HSE Specialist – Richmond / Sandston, VA Location: Sandston, VA (near Richmond) Air Liquide – Seppic, a subsidiary of the Air Liquide group. This role supports the implementation and continuous improvement of Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) programs across manufacturing operations. Responsibilities Assist in the development and implementation of Seppic’s HSE activities in compliance with federal, state, local, and corporate requirements. Collaborate with site personnel and external resources to execute the overall HSE strategy, minimizing liability and exposure to safety, environmental, and security risks. Maintain an “audit‑ready” state of compliance with company and governmental HSE standards. Help develop and deploy all company HSE standards as they specifically apply to the site. Support environmental compliance programs, including air, stormwater, spill control, and wastewater. Manage hazardous and non‑hazardous waste activities to ensure federal, state, and local regulatory compliance. Deliver training and coaching to promote HSE awareness and engagement among all associates. Conduct frequent safety visits to all site areas to promote a safe culture, verify safety rules, and propose improvements. Investigate all HSE incidents, applying root‑cause analysis tools to identify preventive actions. Drive completion of corrective actions to prevent recurrence, including actions resulting from other site incidents. Inspect and maintain safety equipment such as fire extinguishers, safety showers/eyewash, first‑aid kits, AEDs, and more. Assist in industrial hygiene efforts, covering ergonomics, dust, noise, and chemical exposure. Support the Contractor Safety Program and reduce risks associated with construction and contractor activity. Assist with the execution of the site security plan and coordinate PSM activities. Foster a caring culture where safety, health, and environment are core values alongside other business functions. Partner with Engineering, Operations, Sourcing, and Quality to develop and deliver site‑based goals and plans. Lead, coach, and develop operations line supervisors into effective HSE leaders. Collaborate with third‑party risk‑control experts to ensure compliance on new projects. Maintain a web‑based chemical inventory list and Safety Data Sheets, compiling and reporting safety statistics. Perform additional duties as assigned by management. Qualifications High school education or equivalent manufacturing experience. Understanding of manufacturing safety concepts, rules, and requirements. Strong collaborator who enjoys working with others. Can‑do attitude, using innovation to solve problems. Attention to detail, driven to complete tasks on time and correctly. Natural leader who holds people accountable. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree. Understanding of chemical manufacturing requirements related to safety and environment. Critical thinking, comfortable questioning the status quo. Positive, enthusiastic attitude. 3–5 years experience managing safety programs in a manufacturing environment. Strong knowledge of safety regulations (EPA, OSHA, PSM, DOT). Experience with hazard recognition and job‑hazard analysis. Experience with laboratory safety (chemical hygiene, safe lab practices). Fluent in English. Compensation and Work Schedule Pay range: $83,000–$85,000 annually plus bonus. Travel: 0–5% based on business needs. Work schedule: 8‑hour shift, Monday–Friday (on‑call).
