Medical Laboratory Technician/Scientist

Job Summary

Our client is seeking a dedicated Medical Laboratory Technician or Medical Laboratory Scientist responsible for specimen handling, processing, test analyses, maintaining records, and ensuring quality control. This role involves both routine laboratory procedures and special procedures when required.

Key Responsibilities

• Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient results.
• Assist with special procedures as needed, such as bone marrow examinations.
• Perform specimen analysis of Chemistry, Hematology, and Immunology samples.
• Maintain and operate all laboratory equipment, ensuring regular maintenance schedules are adhered to.
• Document quality control activities, instrument calibrations, and maintenance tasks.
• Participate in proficiency testing and accurately report results at least annually.
• Prepare peripheral blood smears and conduct complete WBC differentials.
• Perform microscopic examination of urinary sediment and log results appropriately.
• Identify and correct test system issues or notify supervisors and maintain detailed documentation.
• Manage and maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and prepare chemical solutions as necessary.
• Ensure proper identification and banding of patients for blood product transfusion.
• Assist with phlebotomy and specimen collection, ensuring adherence to authorization and consent protocols.
• Adhere to OSHA compliance laws and Universal Precaution procedures.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient and medical staff information.

Qualifications

• Associates degree in medical technology or laboratory science required for MLTs.
• Bachelor's degree in medical technology or laboratory science required for MTs (MLS).
• Current state license, if required.
• AMT, ASCP or equivalent certification preferred.

Experience

• Minimum 3 years of related experience preferred.

Skills

• Outpatient experience required.
