Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit
The Biology Department's mission is to teach biological concepts and research methods and to prepare students for professional careers and/or advanced study. Undergraduate and graduate student involvement in laboratory and research activities contributes to society's knowledge of living organisms and their environment, and also enhances the students' technical and analytical skills so that they can contribute meaningfully to a technology-driven society.

The Biology Department provides undergraduate and graduate education in biology, conducts biological research using extramural grants, extramural grants, and internal funds, and provides expertise to the community in the areas of biotechnology, human biology, and environmental biology.

The Department's teaching programs are extensive, with the majority of students conducting problem-based learning in laboratory classes. In addition to serving Biology majors, many Departmental courses are required of students enrolled in other science departments, including Biochemistry, Nursing, Nutrition, Exercise and Sport Science, and Education.

Position Summary

The Business Services Coordinator is responsible for all the Biology Department's Financial Operations, including account management and reconciliation, purchasing, travel, and reporting. This position also serves as the Chrome River and P-Card Coordinator. The position interacts regularly with external vendors and with staff, faculty, and administrators across campus.

Minimum Qualifications

BACHELOR'S DEGREE IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION OR A RELATED DISCIPLINE; OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE. ALL DEGREES MUST BE RECEIVED FROM APPROPRIATELY ACCREDITED INSTITUTIONS.

Additional Required Certifications, Licensures, and Certificates

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior budget, accounting, and purchasing experience.
• Banner Experience.
• Experience working in a university setting.
• Excel Experience.
