Senior Business Development Representative

Senior Business Development Representative VP Logistics is seeking a high-performing Senior Business Development Representative with a proven track record of sales success and an established network of logistics or supply chain relationships. The ideal candidate is a self‑starter with deep industry knowledge, strong shipper relationships, and the confidence to manage a pipeline from prospecting through close. You will work closely with VPL’s operations, pricing, and carrier procurement teams while focusing on building and growing customer relationships. Job Summary Leverage your existing book of business and industry network to generate immediate revenue, proactively develop new business opportunities, manage the full sales cycle, cultivate and grow a portfolio of accounts, maintain accurate records in CRM, identify cross‑sell and upsell opportunities, provide market intelligence, represent VPL at industry events, partner with internal teams, and consistently meet or exceed revenue, GP, and new account goals. Duties / Responsibilities Leverage your existing book of business and industry network to generate immediate revenue from day one. Proactively develop new business opportunities through cold calling, networking, referrals, and warm introductions. Manage the full sales cycle from outreach and qualification through proposal, negotiation, and close. Cultivate and grow a portfolio of accounts, serving as the primary point of contact and strategic advisor. Maintain thorough records of all sales activity, pipeline stages, and customer interactions in CRM. Identify cross‑sell and upsell opportunities within your book. Provide clients with market intelligence and industry updates. Represent the VPL brand at industry events, trade shows, and conferences. Partner with internal operations and pricing teams to develop competitive solutions. Consistently meet or exceed assigned revenue, GP, and new account goals. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) Volume and quality of weekly outbound calls and prospecting activity. New buying accounts opened per month/quarter. Percentage of revenue and GP goals achieved. Pipeline coverage ratio and CRM activity completeness. Book of business retention and growth year-over-year. Supervisor Responsibilities None Required Education / Experience 5+ years of sales experience in freight brokerage, 3PL, transportation, or supply chain with a proven track record of exceeding quote goals. An established network of shipper, broker, or freight forwarding contacts ready to use immediately. Proven ability to independently manage a full sales pipeline with minimal hand‑holding. Experience selling across multiple modes: FTL, Expedite, Drayage/MMDL, Flatbed or Power Only preferred. Proficient with CRM platforms and disciplined about pipeline hygiene. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite. Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain, Communication, or related field preferred. Required Skills / Abilities Exceptional communication and presentation skills, comfortable engaging VP and C‑level stakeholders. High emotional intelligence, strong listening skills, and the ability to build trust quickly. Self‑motivated, highly organized, and thrives in a fast‑paced, performance‑driven environment. Strong cold‑calling prospecting and consultative selling skills. Team player with proven collaboration ability. Physical Requirements Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to speak easily and communicate in writing and on a telephone for varying lengths of time and in random order. Required Travel On demand travel for prospect and client visits, trade shows, and the ability to commute to both the Waukegan and Chicago office locations as requested.
