Description: What you'll be doing

Another Source's client, Habitat for Humanity Seattle-King & Kittitas Counties , is recruiting a Chief People & CultureOfficer to join their team in Renton, Washington. This is a hybrid opportunity with four days onsite each week.

About this role:

The Chief People & Culture Officer will drive the development and implementation of strategic People & Culture initiatives and organizational communication strategies that strengthen employee engagement, organizational effectiveness, and connection to Habitat’s mission.

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer and serving as a trusted advisor to the CEO and Senior Leadership Team, this leader will shape workplace culture, organizational design, talent strategy, employee engagement, change management, and internal communications. A critical component of the role is ensuring employees across the organization receive clear, consistent, timely, and meaningful communication about organizational priorities, decisions, changes, and opportunities.

The Chief People & Communications Officer also provides executive leadership and strategic alignment for the Marketing & Communications function. Partnering with the Vice President of Marketing & Communications, this leader will help ensure the function is aligned with organizational priorities and effectively serves departments and lines of business across Habitat. Marketing expertise is not required for this role.

Scope & Impact

  • Work with Senior Leadership to design a comprehensive People & Culture strategy aligned with organizational strategy, bringing together integrated initiatives that enable Habitat’s employees to drive organizational success.
  • Act as a trusted advisor and confidant to the CEO and Senior Leadership Team, helping drive culture strategy and ensure a high-performing, inclusive, collaborative, communicative, and values-driven organization.
  • Develop and lead an organization-wide internal communication strategy that strengthens employee understanding of Habitat’s mission, strategic priorities, organizational decisions, and changes.
  • Partner with the CEO and Senior Leadership Team to ensure important organizational information is communicated clearly, consistently, and at the appropriate time.
  • Strengthen communication across departments and levels of the organization by creating effective mechanisms for two-way communication, employee feedback, and leadership visibility.
  • Integrate internal communication with employee engagement, culture, change management, and organizational development initiatives.
  • Provide communication leadership during periods of organizational change, helping leaders communicate the purpose, impact, and expectations associated with changes while supporting employees through transitions.
  • Champion Habitat’s values and reinforce a strong connection between its people, mission, and impact.
  • Develop and drive employer branding efforts to position Habitat as an employer of choice and ensure a compelling Employee Value Proposition.
  • Oversee performance systems and processes that promote accountability and motivate employees to do their best work.
  • Collaborate with the CEO and Senior Leadership Team to design organizational structures that optimize team effectiveness.
  • Oversee a total rewards philosophy that reinforces Habitat’s mission and strategic priorities, including compensation and benefits programs designed to attract and retain top talent.
  • Lead change management efforts that support organizational growth, evolution, and agility.
  • Establish human resource objectives consistent with organizational mission, strategy, and goals, including staff planning, total compensation, engagement, culture, professional development, and internal communication.
  • Oversee the full employee lifecycle, including hiring, onboarding, staffing, compensation, benefits, training, career development, employee relations, retention, and HR record‑keeping.
  • Lead the design and development of staff training and assist managers in identifying needs and creating training plans aligned with strategic goals.
  • Improve, administer, and ensure compliance with human resources policies and practices.
  • Lead, motivate, and develop a strong People & Culture team of HR and Safety professionals.
  • Work with organizational leaders to ensure workplace safety and compliance with OSHA standards and other legal and safety regulations.
  • Proactively provide coaching, counseling, and guidance to staff and leaders regarding the workplace environment, employee relations, and effective communication.
  • Provide executive leadership and oversight for Marketing & Communications, partnering with the Vice President of Marketing & Communications to align departmental priorities, resources, and services with organizational strategy.
  • Ensure Marketing & Communications operates as an effective enterprise support function while supporting the Vice President as the senior subject-matter leader responsible for the function's day-to-day leadership and professional direction.
  • Provide regular People & Culture and other relevant functional updates to the Habitat Board, including compensation and benefits costs, turnover, recruitment, leadership succession planning, employee and leadership development, and organizational communication priorities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years of increasingly responsible human resources generalist experience, including at least three years of management-level experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in recruiting, succession planning, organization design and development, change management, and leadership and talent development.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute effective internal and organizational communication strategies, particularly in support of employee engagement, culture, and organizational change.
  • Ability to translate complex or sensitive organizational information into clear, accessible communication for employees at all levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to build alignment and facilitate effective communication across functions, departments, and organizational levels.
  • Experience leading senior professionals and providing executive oversight to functions outside your primary area of technical expertise.
  • Ability to effectively lead and support subject-matter experts, establish strategic direction, and hold functional leaders accountable for results.
  • Strong business and organizational acumen with the ability to understand the needs of different lines of business and ensure internal support functions effectively serve those needs.
  • High level of integrity and discretion with the ability to appropriately handle confidential information.
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws and other applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Experience developing and implementing programs that strengthen organizational culture and employee engagement.
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Personal commitment to the mission of Habitat for Humanity Seattle-King & Kittitas Counties.
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record.

Preferred experience includes work within real estate development, construction, and/or retail environments; nonprofit experience, including working with a board of directors; and an HR certification such as PHR, SPHR, GPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP.
