Associate Materials Scientist

Associate Materials Scientist position supporting drug candidate development through solid form synthesis and characterization. Role involves evaluating salt forms, polymorphs, and particles for pharmaceutical acceptability using analytical techniques like X-ray diffraction and thermal analysis.

Responsibilities

• Conduct solid state characterization of pharmaceutical small molecules using XRPD, thermal analysis, moisture sorption, microscopy, and spectroscopy
• Support multidisciplinary teams in crystallization, polymorph, salt, and co-crystal screening activities
• Characterize API particle properties including size, shape, surface energy, and surface roughness
• Collaborate with medicinal chemistry and formulation teams on solid form selection strategies
• Maintain accurate entries in electronic laboratory notebooks and contribute to scientific knowledge development

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree with 2+ years experience or Master's degree in pharmaceutical science, chemistry, or chemical engineering
• Experience with solid state characterization techniques (XRPD, PLM, DSC, TGA, spectroscopy)
• Strong data analysis and interpretation skills
• Understanding of physical, analytical, and organic chemistry
• Excellent organizational, independent work, and communication abilities
• Pharmaceutical API and small molecule testing experience strongly preferred
• Experience with infrared spectroscopy (FTIR, NIR, FT-Raman) or SSNMR advantageous
