Aircraft Structures AssemblerThis contract-to-permanent role focuses on the assembly, modification, and installation of aircraft components, sub-assemblies, and structural assemblies in a climate-controlled production environment. You will work with sheet metal and composite materials, perform complex assemblies and shimming, and use standard shop practices to meet strict customer and quality requirements. The position requires careful interpretation of blueprints, use of precision tools, and identification of nonconforming parts and processes to ensure safe, reliable aircraft structures.ResponsibilitiesRead, interpret, and work from blueprints, specifications, and work orders to assemble aircraft components and structures that meet quality and customer requirements.Perform complex assembly tasks, including sheet metal and composite assembly, complex compound unique shimming, and structural mechanic work on major components, sub-assemblies, and smaller bench assemblies.Set up and operate various shop equipment such as drill motors, countersink cutters, squeezes, precision measuring tools, drill presses, floor-mounted rivet presses, forklifts, and overhead cranes as needed.Complete required data gathering and documentation to accurately record assembly progress and process information throughout the build.Identify nonconforming parts, conditions, and manufacturing processes, and communicate findings to support corrective actions and continuous improvement.Perform riveting and other fastening operations on sheet metal and composite materials according to established procedures and quality standards.Carry out any required rework, changes, or modifications incorporated during the assembly process to ensure final assemblies meet all specifications.Troubleshoot assembly and structural issues as they arise and proactively look for process improvements to enhance safety, quality, and efficiency.Move, stage, and obtain correct parts, materials, tools, and assemblies to maintain workflow and minimize production delays.Use effective verbal communication to coordinate work processes with team members and supervisors, and accurately write and record process information in required documentation.Follow all safety guidelines and work practices when working near moving mechanical parts, vibration, fumes, airborne particles, and chemicals.Maintain organized, clean work areas and handle tools and equipment responsibly to support a safe and efficient production environment.Essential SkillsHigh school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to two years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Two to five years of complex assembly experience in an aerospace or closely related manufacturing environment.Two to five years of aircraft structures experience, including sheet metal work and structural assembly.Demonstrated ability to interpret and work from blueprints and specifications for complex assemblies.Hands-on experience with sheet metal fabrication and assembly.Proficiency with riveting techniques and use of rivet presses and related tools.Experience with composite materials, composite fabrication, and composite assembly.Ability to perform complex compound unique shimming and spares assembly in aircraft structures.Strong time management skills to meet production schedules and support overtime as needed.Ability to communicate verbally regarding work processes and collaborate effectively within a production team.Ability to write and record process information accurately for documentation and quality tracking.Capability to use precision measuring tools and hand tools safely and effectively.Physical ability to regularly stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms, and occasionally sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.Physical ability to occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds.Additional Skills & QualificationsApproximately six months of vocational training in manufacturing, aerospace, or a related technical field is preferred.Previous experience working with major aerospace programs such as large commercial aircraft frames or similar complex structures is highly desirable.Familiarity with 787 frames composite assembly or comparable composite aircraft structures is a plus.Experience in environments involving complex assembly, structures mechanic work, and spares integration is beneficial.Comfort working with overhead cranes, forklifts, drill presses, and floor-mounted rivet presses in a production setting.Aerospace manufacturing with exposure to industry-leading practices and standards is preferred.Demonstrated ability to work safely in loud, high-activity production environments with moving mechanical parts and airborne particles.Flexibility to work contract-to-perm arrangements and adapt to evolving production needs and schedules.Why Work Here?You join a team that values precision, craftsmanship, and continuous improvement in a modern, climate-controlled aerospace production environment.
