Wastewater Conveyance System Monitor IPima County Regional Wastewater Reclamation Department is seeking talented candidates to assist in our Odor Abatement team. If you have experience in operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting within wastewater conveyance systems then we can use your skills. Typical work assignments include management of complex odor control sites, equipment and instruments, including monitoring and maintaining control systems used around the conveyance system. Our goal within the Odor Team is to keep our community's conveyance sewer system safe, reliable, and consistently odor free.Essential Functions:Installs, operates and maintains the flow monitoring, CCTV, and odor control equipment in the wastewater conveyance systems;Inspects, collects and documents data relative to the quantity of odor levels, flow, type and condition of pipeline, obstructions, meter operation and other pertinent information;Sets up and operates traffic control devices to facilitate the safe entry of manholes to install, operate, collect, adjust or service metering equipment;Answers inquiries and provides information to the public regarding sanitary sewerage systems functions and conditions;Participates in the selection of wastewater monitoring locations for reliable sample collection, flow metering, CCTV inspections and assessments, and testing odor levels;Coordinates activities with Conveyance, Industrial Wastewater Control and Treatment Plants to minimize/avoid service disruption in compliance with state and federal permit regulations;Participates in performing special surveys to collect data required for determining stormwater inflow, for setting rates and for use in planning and engineering;Participates with the department in the development of improved or new techniques and procedures for measuring wastewater flow and/or odor levels;Maintains, monitors, disassembles, cleans, reassembles, installs and tests equipment and makes necessary adjustments and/or minor repairs;Maintains and operates assigned County equipment and vehicle;Creates and maintains automated file systems for documenting collected data and producing reports;Assists in the training of personnel in the procedures and techniques required for metering the sanitary sewage flow, performing CCTV inspections and assessments, and controlling odors in the conveyance systems.Minimum Qualifications:Completion of three college-level classes from an accredited college, university or trade school in physical or environmental science AND six months of experience in environmental technology or other relevant experience as defined by the department head at the time of recruitment.(Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.)OR:One year of experience in the maintenance and/or operation of sanitary sewage infrastructure or similar industrial facilities and equipment.Qualifying education and experience must be clearly documented in the "Education" and "Work Experience" sections of the application. Preferred Qualifications:Minimum two (2) years experience working with meters, sensors, or similar electrical equipment in a field setting.Minimum two (2) years experience operating, maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting small equipment including pumps and motors.Minimum one (1) year experience utilizing specialized computer software used for maintenance tracking and repairs.Selection Procedure: Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicant's suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services' review and approval of the candidate's driving record. Some positions require a valid Arizona commercial driver license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements, as identified by the department head. CCTV position must obtain NAASCO pipeline, manhole, and lateral inspection certifications within the probation period. Physical/Sensory Requirements: Some positions may require any or all of the following: lifting and carrying up to seventy-five pounds or more; safely operating assigned vehicles and other powered equipment; wearing required safety clothing and equipment; ascending and descending ladders and stairs to reach and work upon elevated or below-grade work platforms and job sites; differentiating between colors. Action Activity - bending, climbing, crawling, kneeling, reaching, squatting and stooping; Motion Action - simple and firm grasping and fine movement; Hearing Activity - in noisy areas, on a radio, behind themselves and equipment alarms; Speaking Activity - in person, on the phone, on a radio and on a cell; Vision - operate motor vehicle, may be required to operate CDL, operate machinery, operate forklift/power industrial equipment, distinguish colors, have depth perception and have peripheral vision.
