Gas Turbine Rotor Mechanic Trainee-2nd Shift Launch your career in power generation as a 2nd Shift Gas Turbine Rotor Mechanic Trainee in our Houston, TX repair shop. Working alongside experienced rotor mechanics, you’ll gain hands-on experience disassembling, inspecting, measuring, repairing, and assembling GE and Siemens Westinghouse gas turbine rotor components. Through structured training, you’ll develop skills in precision measurement, blueprint reading, rotor stack assembly, mechanical troubleshooting, rigging, quality control, and turbine component identification, all while learning to meet safety, quality, and customer standards. Ideal candidates have strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, a safety-first mindset, and an eagerness to learn specialized turbine repair techniques. Trainees who successfully complete the program and demonstrate proficiency may advance to a Gas Turbine Rotor Mechanic role. Shift: Monday-Friday, 3:30 p.m.-12:00 a.m., with overtime available based on business needs. Job Responsibilities Rotor Disassembly and Assembly Support the disassembly and reassembly of GE and Siemens Westinghouse gas turbine rotors and related components. Remove, clean, inspect, and prepare rotating components for repair and reassembly. Assist with installing and removing compressor wheels, turbine wheels, spacers, tie bolts, and related hardware. Support rotor stacking and unstacking in accordance with approved procedures.Inspection and Measurement Perform dimensional inspections using precision instruments such as micrometers, dial indicators, bore gauges, calipers, depth gauges, and height gauges. Document inspection results accurately in reports and quality records. Assist with runout checks, concentricity measurements, and alignment verification. Learn to conduct visual and dimensional inspections and evaluate components against acceptance criteria.Shop Operations Safely operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and other shop equipment after completing required training and certification. Prepare components for cleaning, blasting, machining, and non-destructive examination (NDE). Maintain clean, organized work areas in accordance with 5S and housekeeping standards. Assist with tooling setup and equipment preparation for rotor projects.Quality and Documentation Complete work instructions, inspection reports, and job documentation accurately. Follow all quality procedures and customer requirements. Help maintain traceability for rotor components and hardware. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and root cause investigations as needed.Safety Follow all company safety policies and procedures and use required personal protective equipment (PPE). Participate in safety meetings, training programs, and job hazard assessments. Remain alert to lifting, rigging, and stored-energy hazards associated with large rotating equipment. Required Skills / Knowledge Required Qualifications: Mechanical aptitude and an interest in industrial rotating equipment. Basic knowledge of hand and power tools. Ability to read and follow technical procedures and work instructions. Ability to perform basic math calculations. Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality. Ability to work safely in an industrial shop setting. Willingness to learn and receive coaching from experienced team members.Preferred Qualifications Technical school, vocational training, or coursework in industrial maintenance, machining, mechanical technology, or a related field. Previous experience in manufacturing, maintenance, machining, or mechanical assembly. Familiarity with precision measuring tools. Basic blueprint-reading skills. Experience 0-2yrs experience of hands-on repair shop work history or vocational training within the fields of Industrial Maintenance or Mechanical, Machining or Manufacturing Technology. Education Requirements Minimum: High school diploma or GED. Preferred: Associate degree, technical certificate, or vocational training in industrial maintenance, mechanical technology, machining technology, manufacturing technology, or a related field. Physical Requirements Ability to work Monday-Friday from 3:30 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., with overtime as business needs require. Stand and walk for prolonged periods. Lift up to 50 pounds independently and heavier items with assistance or lifting equipment. Work safely near large rotating components and industrial machinery. Bend, stoop, kneel, climb, and work in various shop conditions. Wear required PPE, including safety glasses, a hard hat, hearing protection, gloves, and steel-toed footwear.
