Manual Machinist - 2nd Shift

EthosEnergy is seeking a 2nd Shift Manual Machinist to join our growing Gas Turbine repair facility in Houston, TX. In this hands-on role, you will machine, assemble, and prepare steam and gas turbine components for engineering testing and evaluation. You will perform precision machining, build steam and compressor units, and support product development and testing with minimal supervision. This position offers the opportunity to work on critical rotating equipment while collaborating with engineering and manufacturing teams in a fast-paced environment. Successful candidates must have 15+ years of machining experience, including 10+ years' machining rotors. Please note that this shift follows a 3 PM - 11 AM, Monday - Friday schedule. OT is available based on business needs.


Job Responsibilities

• Set up and operate manual machining equipment, including mills, lathes, VTLs, surface grinders, boring bars, and related tools with minimal supervision.
• Perform precision machining, deep-hole machining, rotor work, and critical feature machining to required tolerances, including up to .0005" where applicable.
• Design, make, modify, deburr, identify, preserve, and protect parts, fixtures, and tooling as required.
• Inspect components, determine damage or repair needs, correct mechanical errors, and document results, clearances, and customer-return findings.
• Perform complex rigging, lifting, part indication, and equipment handling activities safely and efficiently.
• Support assembly, blading fundamentals, testing, repair, and temporary assignments across departments, customer sites, and other EthosEnergy facilities as needed.
• Maintain clean equipment and work areas while consistently meeting safety, quality, production, and housekeeping standards.

Required Skills / Knowledge

• Strong knowledge of machining terminology, tooling, materials, blueprints, and precision measuring practices.
• Ability to plan efficient setups and operate manual machining equipment, including horizontal lathes, VTLs, large mills, knee mills, drill presses, material saws, mag base drills, boring bars, flange facers, and tip grinders.
• Skilled in indicating parts and rotors, including VTL work, large mill setups, horizontal lathe setups, steady rests, centers, and rotor journal grinding.
• Experience safely rigging, lifting, and handling nozzles, diaphragms, turbine cases, rotors, cranes, forklifts, and scissor lifts.
• Proficient in specialized rotor repair processes, including block polishing, skim and burnish probe areas, and one-off repair troubleshooting.
• Advanced mechanical troubleshooting and critical-thinking skills with the ability to train and support others.

Experience

• 15+ years of machining experience.
• 10+ years of rotor machining experience, with demonstrated ability to train and support others.

Education Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work a 2nd shift, 3 PM - 11 AM Monday - Friday schedule
• Lift up to 35 lbs.
