Senior Database Administrator- Hybrid Telework

Job Description and Duties

Under the general direction of the Enterprise Application and Data Services Branch, Database & Analytics Support Manager (IT Manager I), the Information Technology Specialist II (IT Specialist II) is responsible for database administration, data-centric application development and interdisciplinary collaboration. While maintaining the stability and accessibility of DSH data systems, the incumbent continually researches, evaluates and implements new and emerging technologies to meet DSH needs, vision and mission.

The primary duties of the IT Specialist II lie within Database Administration and Systems Engineering domains of the IT Specialist II classification.

Working Conditions

• This position reports to the Allenby Building in Sacramento County and may be eligible and considered for a telework opportunity in accordance with departmental policies, operational needs, and management approval. Employees are currently required to work in-person at least four (4) days per week in alignment with Executive Order N-22-25. Additional in-office days may be required based on operational needs. The incumbent may also be required to travel throughout California as needed, with prior notice.
• The State’s Commute Programs provide bicycle, mass transit and vanpool incentives to eligible state employees. The State’s mass transit incentive pays 100% of the transit pass up to the IRS maximum of $340 per month in 2026.

• DSH-Sacramento is located at an 11 floor high rise building.

Statement Of Qualifications

A Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is required and must be submitted along with your State application. 1. After reading the Duty Statement of this position, please describe your qualifications for this position, including your education/degrees, training/licenses and relevant working experience.
2. Please describe your working experience troubleshooting database systems, tuning performance, and optimizing queries. Please give an example of the most complex issue you have helped resolve.
3. Please describe your experience with cloud databases, data warehouses, and reporting platforms. Please give a detailed example: how you migrate on-premises databases to the cloud, and how you develop a data warehouse for reporting purposes.
