School American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter

We are currently seeking an American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter for the upcoming school year to provide interpretation and transliteration services for students who are deaf or hard of hearing in an educational environment. Located at a middle school, this role involves supporting the communication needs of students in academic settings, participating in the development and implementation of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), and working closely with teachers and staff to ensure seamless access to the curriculum.

Responsibilities:

• Provide accurate interpretation during classroom instruction, meetings, and other school activities to ensure full participation for deaf or hard of hearing students.
• Partner with special education teams and participate in IEP meetings to develop and implement appropriate educational plans.
• Facilitate clear communication between students, staff, and parents by translating spoken and signed communication.
• Assist with the use of resources and technology, including assistive devices, to enhance student learning.
• Maintain strict confidentiality and professionalism in all aspects of the interpretation role.
• Document and report on student progress as needed in accordance with district and IEP guidelines.
• Manage daily schedule efficiently and prioritize tasks to provide optimal support for students.
• Perform other related duties as assigned to support the educational environment.

• High school diploma or GED is required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree is preferred.
• Current certification in American Sign Language interpretation, such as RID (Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf) or state equivalent.
• Strong proficiency in American Sign Language and a deep knowledge of Deaf culture.
• Prior experience working directly with students or individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing.
• Ability to interpret and transliterate spoken English into ASL and ASL into spoken English accurately.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with students, colleagues, administrators, and parents.
• Strong oral and written communication skills paired with excellent interpersonal abilities.
