The College was established by an act of the State Legislature in 1925, and is the oldest public two-year college in the State of Colorado. The College’s Service Area includes eight rural counties characterized by low population density and small communities. One campus is located in Trinidad and is a residential campus while the other, located in Alamosa, is a commuter campus. Both campuses serve distinct populations. As a comprehensive Community College, Trinidad State College not only offers ongoing transfer Associate of Arts Degree and Associate of Applied Science (vocational) Degree programs but also has developed and implemented numerous successful short-term vocational certificate programs, and totally inclusive adult education and developmental programs. Job Summary: Trinidad State College seeks a highly motivated, student-centered English faculty member to join a dynamic and innovative academic community. The faculty member is responsible for providing high-quality instruction in English and related communications courses; supporting student success through advising, mentoring, and engagement; contributing to curriculum development and assessment; and participating in college, community, and accreditation activities. The successful candidate will be committed to serving a diverse student population and advancing the mission of Trinidad State College through excellence in teaching, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Duties & Responsibilities: ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Teaching and Learning Teach English and related Communications courses within established faculty workload guidelines. Deliver instruction through face-to-face, hybrid, online, synchronous, and asynchronous formats as assigned. Develop and maintain course materials, syllabi, assignments, and assessments aligned with approved curriculum and student learning outcomes. Utilize evidence-based instructional strategies that support student engagement, persistence, and achievement. Provide timely feedback and maintain accurate academic records. Student Success and Advising Maintain regular office hours and provide academic advising and mentoring to students. Assist students with educational planning, transfer pathways, career exploration, and academic success strategies. Support retention, completion, and transfer initiatives. Participate in student recruitment, orientation, registration, and outreach activities. Curriculum, Assessment, and Continuous Improvement Participate in curriculum development, revision, and program improvement activities. Engage in assessment of student learning outcomes and use results to improve teaching and program effectiveness. Contribute to program review, accreditation, strategic planning, and institutional effectiveness efforts. Collaborate with colleagues to maintain program quality and alignment with transfer and workforce expectations. College and Community Engagement Serve on college committees and participate in shared governance activities. Attend department, division, college, and professional meetings. Develop and maintain partnerships with local school districts and community organizations. Represent Trinidad State College in community and professional activities. Professional Responsibilities Maintain currency in the discipline through professional development and scholarly or professional engagement. Support a culture of belonging, inclusion, and respect for diverse backgrounds and perspectives. Adhere to College, Colorado Community College System, state, and federal policies and procedures. Perform other duties as assigned. Competencies/KSAs: Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in English; or Master's degree in a related field with a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in English. Demonstrated commitment to student success. Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to utilize instructional technologies, learning management systems, and educational software. Ability to teach in multiple instructional modalities. Preferred Qualifications: Community college teaching experience. Experience teaching composition, developmental English, literature, technical writing, or communications courses. Online teaching experience. Experience advising, mentoring, and supporting diverse student populations. Experience with assessment, curriculum development, and program review. Familiarity with concurrent enrollment, transfer pathways, and rural community college environments. This position is responsible for development of student training and awareness programming for the athletic team regarding unlawful discrimination and harassment prevention, which includes sexual misconduct, in collaboration with the Equal Opportunity/Title IX Coordinator for the College as well as the College Athletic Director. This position is responsible for development of primary prevention and awareness programs for the athletic team for incoming students as well as ongoing prevention and awareness campaigns pursuant to the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act on dating and domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking, in collaboration with College staff responsible with overseeing Clery Act compliance.
