Perioperative Assistant – SSU

What the Job Is Like

• Pay: $31.69 per hour
• Schedule: Monday – Friday
• Shifts: 8-hour shifts, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM or 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, depending on the needs of the unit
• Location: Palo Alto, CA
• Duration: 13 weeks initially
• Start Date: Immediate need – Target start date of September 21

Minimum Qualifications Education

• High school diploma or equivalent required.

Certifications

• Current Nursing Assistant (NA/CNA) certification or Perioperative certification.
• Current BLS certification preferred.

Experience

• Minimum 1 year of experience in an acute care or hospital setting.
• Recent pediatric healthcare experience required.
• Experience working in a fast-paced patient care environment.
• Strong communication, organization, teamwork, and multitasking skills.
• Ability to work independently while knowing when to seek direction or clarification.

Preferred

• Spanish-speaking.
• Experience with EPIC.
• Previous experience in perioperative, SSU, pre-op/PACU, patient transport, or similar hospital-based environments.

Responsibilities As a Perioperative Assistant, you will support the SSU team with a variety of patient-facing and operational responsibilities, including:

• Assist with patient check-in and preparation within the SSU workflow.
• Assist with patient transport to and from designated areas as needed.
• Support room turnover and preparation to ensure rooms are ready for the next patient.
• Assist with the movement and coordination of patients throughout the perioperative process.
• Help manage multiple responsibilities and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Communicate effectively with nurses, providers, patients, families, and other members of the healthcare team.
• Support the team with day-to-day SSU workflow and operational needs.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized patient care environment.
• Follow department policies, procedures, and safety standards.
• Demonstrate professionalism, attentiveness, and a patient-centered approach at all times.
• Communicate promptly when clarification or assistance is needed.
• Work collaboratively with the healthcare team while demonstrating the ability to complete assigned responsibilities independently.
