MRI Technician

Job Family: CT Technologist Travel Required: None Clearance Required: Ability to Obtain Public Trust What You Will Do Conduct Magnetic Resonance safety screening of human subjects. Collect MRI brain images, functional MRI images, and Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (MRS). Perform regular quality assurance procedures on MRI scanner and instruments. Ensure all studies are conducted in compliance with NIH standards and regulations. Train research staff and other staff on scanner operation. Work with staff to design and modify research protocols and optimize MRI/MRS protocols. Provide input on scanner modifications to produce optimum image spectra and efficient use of the scanner. Administer intravenous contrast agents and perform venipuncture on infants, children and adults, following physician orders. Collect and archive MRI/MRS data. Collect, manage and analyze data generated by experiments in laboratory animals. Perform clinical and specialized MRI procedures on patients and animals, including functional MRI, diffusion MRI and MRS. Set up MRI equipment, matrix camera, coils, and display equipment for functional imaging. Operate the scan console, selecting proper imaging sequences. Execute research projects focusing on reproducibility and quality assurance of pulse sequences. Transfer raw and post‑processed images and data to databases and secure storage media. Adhere to safety precautions and MRI facility procedures. Monitor and maintain the MRI study participant schedule and inform researchers of available slots. Assist research fellows in developing new protocols and optimizing scanning protocols. Train new researchers and technologists on MRI protocols and safe operation. Stay current with updates to instrumentation and software. Operate peripheral hardware and ensure data integrity. Test and troubleshoot new hardware and software with clinical scientists, coil developers and vendors. Identify equipment malfunctions, notify personnel and schedule or perform routine maintenance. What You Will Need Certification from the American Registry of Radiology Technology (ARRT) or similar entity in an MRI Technology program focusing on medical imaging. At least four (4) years of MRI imaging experience. Experience conducting MRI and MRS scans and analyzing the results. Knowledge of standard MRI safety protocols and procedures. Ability to obtain and maintain a Federal or DoD "public trust"; candidates must receive approved adjudication prior to onboarding. Nice to Have Master’s degree preferred. Experience working with human and/or animal subjects. Experience training researchers or technologists on equipment. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency in MS Office Suite. Collaborative working with investigators and research teams. Strong attention to detail. Salary The annual salary range for this position is $74,000.00–$124,000.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
