The Role:

Coquí Power is seeking an experienced Director of Project Controls and Finance to operate at the intersection of project execution, capital deployment, budgeting, and investor/lender reporting for utility-scale energy infrastructure projects. This role will be responsible for ensuring projects are financially structured, properly funded, and executed in compliance with budgetary and financing requirements.

The Director will work closely on tax equity structures, ITC/PTC qualification requirements, safe harbor compliance, equipment procurement timing, debt draw mechanics, and portfolio-level reporting across multiple projects. This position is highly cross-functional and will interact daily with development teams, EPC contractors, procurement, accounting, treasury, lenders, investors, and external counsel.

This role offers a unique opportunity to serve as a hybrid of project controls, infrastructure finance, construction finance, asset management, and PMO coordination. It is a strategic position with the opportunity to help shape capital strategy, acquisition underwriting, portfolio management, and financing execution across the platform.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Planning & Budget Management

• Building and maintaining the project budget
\n
• Tracking actual spend vs. forecast
\n
• Monitoring EPC costs, interconnection costs, equipment procurement, contingencies, and soft costs
\n
• Managing draw schedules and cash flow timing
\n
• Identifying cost overruns and financial risks early
\n

Financing Coordination

\n
• Working with lenders, tax equity investors, sponsors, and legal teams
\n
• Managing construction loan draws and compliance requirements
\n
• Coordinating diligence materials for financing parties
\n
• Tracking covenants, reporting obligations, and milestone requirements
\n
• Supporting financial close processes
\n

Contract & Invoice Oversight

\n
• Reviewing EPC invoices and payment applications
\n
• Coordinating approvals for vendor payments
\n
• Ensuring invoices align with contract terms and completed milestones
\n
• Managing change orders from a financial perspective
\n

Schedule & Capital Deployment Tracking

\n
• Aligning construction progress with capital deployment timelines
\n
• Making sure procurement, construction, and financing timelines stay synchronized
\n
• Updating financial models based on schedule changes or delays
\n

Reporting & Stakeholder Communication

\n
• Producing reports for executives, lenders, investors, and development partners
\n
• Tracking KPIs such as:
\n

o  budget variance

o  burn rate

o  contingency usage

o  schedule adherence

o  projected COD (Commercial Operation Date)

\n
• Participating in project meetings with development, engineering, EPC, and finance teams
\n

Risk Management

\n
• Identifying risks that could impact project economics:
\n

o  tariff changes

o  supply chain delays

o  labor shortages

o  interconnection delays

o  permitting issues

\n
• Modeling financial impacts and mitigation strategies
\n

Qualifications:

\n
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, Engineering, or a related field required; MBA, CFA, CPA, or other advanced financial designation preferred
\n
• 7–12+ years of experience in renewable energy finance, infrastructure finance, project finance, private equity, investment banking, asset management, or a related field
\n
• Demonstrated experience supporting utility-scale solar and/or renewable energy projects through development, construction, financing, and operational phases
\n
• Strong understanding of tax equity structures, including partnership flip structures, sale-leasebacks, and transferability considerations
\n
• Deep familiarity with ITC/PTC qualification requirements, safe harbor rules, prevailing wage and apprenticeship requirements, and other renewable energy incentive frameworks
\n
• Experience managing construction financing processes, including debt draw requests, lender compliance, project budgets, sources and uses, and financial reporting
\n
• Strong financial modeling and analytical capabilities, including experience with project finance models, portfolio reporting, and acquisition underwriting
\n
• Experience coordinating across multiple stakeholders, including developers, EPC contractors, lenders, investors, procurement teams, legal counsel, accounting, and treasury functions
\n
• Exceptional organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
\n
• Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial reporting tools; familiarity with ERP systems, project controls software, and data visualization tools is a plus
\n
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing materials for lenders, investors, executives, and investment committees
\n
• Highly detail-oriented with strong commercial judgment and problem-solving abilities
\n
• Ability to operate both strategically and tactically in a growing, entrepreneurial environment
\n
