Kaufleute im E-Commerce sind im digitalen Vertrieb an der Schnittstelle von Werbung, digitaler Kundenberatung, Buchhaltung und IT tätig. Sie wirken bei der Sortimentsgestaltung mit, bei der Beschaffung von Dienstleistungen und präsentieren das Angebot verkaufsfördernd auf der Internetseite, im Online-Banking, auf Onlinemarktplätzen, in Social Media oder Blogs. Mit Kunden kommunizieren sie z.B. per E‑Mail, Chat oder telefonisch und nehmen Anfragen, Reklamationen oder Bestellungen entgegen. Sie richten Bezahlsysteme ein, überwachen Zahlungseingänge und veranlassen die Übermittlung bestellter Dienstleistungen. Darüber hinaus planen sie zielgruppen- und produktspezifische Onlinemarketingmaßnahmen, organisieren die Erstellung und die gezielte Platzierung von Werbung und bewerten den Werbeerfolg. Für die kaufmännische Steuerung und Kontrolle analysieren sie die Ergebnisse der Kosten‑ und Leistungsrechnung und werten Verkaufszahlen sowie betriebliche Prozesse aus.
