Employment Advocate

Under the direct supervision of the HS Program Manager, this position is responsible for supporting clients as they navigate the employment services program. Duties include carrying out personalized career counseling sessions, creating and maintaining client files, and accurately updating the online data system for all participants. In addition, will provide clients with meaningful references to community partners. Duties, Functions, and Responsibilities: Engage participants verbally and in writing using a professional, culturally responsive, and strengths-based approach. Meet with participants in Transitional Housing, Rapid Re-Housing, and Permanent Supportive Housing programs to support employment readiness, job retention, and long-term housing stability. Assess employment goals, barriers, and service needs, including limited work history, employment gaps, background or credit challenges, limited computer skills, and underemployment. Provide individualized coaching to strengthen job search strategies, interview skills, workplace readiness, and resolution of employment-related barriers. Assist participants with resumes, cover letters, master applications, online applications, and other employment-related documents. Document participant progress, referrals, outcomes, barriers, and employment updates in HMIS and other required systems. Prepare monthly reports summarizing participant demographics, employment engagement, outcomes, and progress toward grant performance measures. Connect participants to community resources, partner agencies, training opportunities, employers, and supportive services that promote employment stability and advancement. Coordinate with housing case managers to provide employment-related follow-up, consultation, and participant support. Provide in-person job readiness, life skills, and employment-readiness classes aligned with program goals. Representing HELP of Southern Nevada and Housing Services at community meetings, outreach events, tabling opportunities, partner events, and public speaking engagements. Build and maintain relationships with community partners, employers, service providers, and referral sources to expand participant access to employment opportunities. Identify opportunities to improve service delivery, strengthen participant engagement, and streamline program operations. Perform other duties, responsibilities, and special projects as assigned to meet program, department, agency, and participant needs. The ideal candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities: Knowledge of local social service agencies, employment supports, community resources, partner programs, and referral techniques that assist participants with housing stability, workforce re-engagement, job readiness, and employment advancement. Proficiency in Adobe PDF and Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and Outlook, along with the ability to use data entry platforms and other required systems to document services, track outcomes, maintain records, and complete timely correspondence. Strong written, verbal, and active listening skills, with the ability to independently initiate, prepare, and respond to professional correspondence, participant communication, partner inquiries, and program-related documentation. Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with individuals from diverse social, cultural, and economic backgrounds while demonstrating sensitivity, professionalism, and an understanding of culturally diverse populations. Ability to exercise sound judgment, professionalism, and appropriate decision-making when responding to participant needs, crisis situations, employment barriers, sensitive client circumstances, and changing program demands. Ability to organize work schedules, manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, budget time appropriately, and adjust to shifting priorities with flexibility and accountability. Ability to understand, follow, and apply agency policies, program procedures, confidentiality standards, documentation requirements, grant expectations, and other applicable program standards. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with participants, coworkers, supervisors, community partners, employers, service providers, and the public. Ability to observe, assess, and identify participant strengths, needs, barriers, and readiness for employment services, referrals, job readiness activities, life skills support, and other supportive resources. Ability to work flexible hours as required by the program, including participation in community events, outreach activities, partner meetings, training, tabling events, public speaking opportunities, and other program-related responsibilities. Qualifications, Education, and/or Equivalent Experience: High School Diploma/GED and experience working in social services or human resources field. Ideal candidate will have knowledge of workforce reentry programs and services. Must pass background check and pre-employment drug screening. Must have a current NV driver’s license and clean DMV record. Working Conditions: Work is performed in an office environment, with driving required at times. May be subject to sitting, standing, lifting, bending, squatting, walking, pushing and pulling, and simple grasping. The position requires working indoors, in environmentally controlled conditions. Exposure to computer screens, sounds and noise levels that may be distracting or uncomfortable. Job tasks are performed in close physical proximity to other people. #J-18808-Ljbffr
