Advanced Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT)
Join a dedicated healthcare team in the Midwest region as an Advanced Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT). This role involves comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders through both in-center and out-of-center sleep testing, diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, and patient education. You will work under the supervision of a medical director or designee, providing expert care and oversight within the sleep center.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform polysomnography duties with strong technical skills and critical thinking, ensuring accurate data collection and adherence to protocols.
- Provide age-specific care for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients, using professional guidelines and sleep center protocols.
- Maintain high standards of quality by monitoring equipment, calibrating devices, and ensuring artifact-free data acquisition.
- Document patient data accurately and generate reports to support scoring and interpretation of sleep studies.
- Follow safety, infection control, and accreditation standards rigorously.
- Deliver excellent customer service, maintain equipment, and manage inventory effectively.
- Work independently while fostering teamwork, accountability, and effective communication within the healthcare team.
Education
Completion of an accredited educational program focused on sleep technology, such as a certificate or associate degree, or equivalent experience with documented proficiency. Certification by a nationally recognized board is required, holding credentials such as Registered Sleep Technologist (RST), Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT), or Sleep Disorders Specialist (SDS).
Experience
Previous experience as a polysomnographer is preferred but not mandatory.
Certifications and Licenses
- Current registration by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists.
- American Heart Association BLS certification.
- Participation in at least 10 hours per year (averaged over three years) of AMA PRA Category 1 CME or CEC sleep-related educational activities.
Mental and Physical Requirements
This role requires frequent standing, manual dexterity, reaching, balancing, and communication. Occasional walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling may be necessary. Ability to lift and move weights up to 50 pounds occasionally is required. Visual acuity including close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment is essential.
Working Conditions
Potential exposure to infectious diseases, odors, disinfectants, chemicals, and blood-borne pathogens may occur. Safety protocols must be strictly followed.
