Accountant IIIThe Business Office of the Division of Student Affairs is seeking to hire an Accountant III to support the University Housing and the Resident Experience (UHRE) department. The accountant performs all financial analysis and accounting operations for the University's Foundation-owned resident properties (which are aside from normal University financial activities) working directly with Foundation stakeholders and lenders as well as University stakeholders. The accountant performs a variety of routine and non-routine accounting functions with limited supervision including analyzing financial information and preparing financial reports to determine or maintain records of assets, liabilities, profit and loss, and vacancy loss. The accountant also processes expense allocations, monthly accruals, and amortization of prepaid expenses; records adjustment journal entries; and performs general accounts analysis and reconciliations, including bank statements, accruals, and prepaid expenses.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesPrepares, coordinates, and documents financial analysis projects such as financial and expense performance, rate of return, depreciation, and working capitalProvides analysis for forward-looking financial and business-related projects; prepares forecasts and analysis of trends in finance, general business conditions, and other related areas; identifies trends and developments in competitive environments and presents findings to senior managementCreates and analyzes monthly, quarterly, and annual reports and ensures financial information has been recorded accuratelyProcesses expense allocations, monthly accruals, amortization of prepaid expenses, and records adjustment journal entriesPerforms general accounts analysis and reconciliations including bank statements, accruals, and prepaid expensesPrepares accounts receivable analysis and reportsRecords revenue and receivablesReviews general ledger accounts for accurate transaction posts, ensuring they match intended budget locations; reviews budget to actual reports on a monthly basisAnalyzes monthly financial reports comparing actuals to budget to ensure accuracy; discusses monthly activity with Foundation stakeholders and Senior Director to ensure expenses are aligned with budgetAssists Foundation Senior Director for Capital Projects & Administration with preparation of external financial reports to include University and University FoundationTroubleshoots and resolves any discrepanciesAssists in accounts payable process, audits and budget processMaintains fixed asset reports including tracking, input, and depreciation of assetsPrepares various financial statements and reports for the Foundation and Senior DirectorPrepares property proformas for existing book of real estate and future developmentsPerforms and analyzes month-end closingsPerforms general forecasting and planningPerforms variance analysis to support financial statementsTakes charge of year-end and ad hoc internal and external auditsPerforms ad hoc analysis and projections by location and vendorAssists in developing analysis and presentations for senior managementPrepares monthly financial statement reporting package for assigned propertiesReviews rent rolls, accounts receivable reports, and related reportsReviews and reconciles G/L accountsMaintains general ledgers for a portfolio of propertiesReviews or prepares annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP or tax basisProvides any necessary accounting support to the management team as neededAdheres to internal accounting policies and proceduresReviews variances in financial statements and documents explanation for significant itemsEnsures all debt, real estate tax, and sales tax (where applicable) are made in a timelyPrepares market and initial site analysis, including that of trends, competition reports, and general site informationEngages in the projection of the organization's working capital and cash flow statementAssists in conducting training for new and existing staff in related departmentsAssists to improve departmental workflowWorks with broadly defined work objectives and a limited review of overall resultsAssists with other division initiatives and operations including, but not limited to, freshman orientation, Welcome Week, and resident move-in eventsPerforms other duties and completes special projects as assignedPreferred QualificationsExperience using Workday software - HRIS, Finance, AdaptiveProficient using Microsoft Excel and WordExceptional quantitative and analytical proficiency, including significant financial modeling capabilitiesExperience working with computerized financial accounting systemsEffective oral and written communication skillsExperience in general ledger accountingWork Hours and LocationThis is a full-time, exempt position with a 37.5-hour regular workweek. Additional work hours may be required based on department needs, programming, staffing, and/or scheduling. The primary work location for this position is at the Belknap Campus.
