Position Title: Business Unit President The Opportunity:
The Business Unit President will step into a highly visible leadership role with the opportunity to guide an established business through its next phase of growth and evolution. The organization has built a meaningful presence in a competitive and attractive market and has demonstrated the ability to scale revenue over time. It is now at an inflection point where stronger operational structure, a more balanced business model, and a renewed focus on culture and execution will unlock significantly greater long-term performance. This creates a unique opportunity for a leader to shape the future of the business by building on its existing foundation while introducing the discipline and strategic direction needed to elevate it to a higher level. The individual in this role will be responsible for fundamentally redefining how the business operates. This includes rebuilding the service organization into a true engine of recurring revenue, establishing process rigor around dispatch, technician productivity, and maintenance execution, and creating a framework where performance expectations are clear and consistently enforced. The opportunity requires a leader who is comfortable diagnosing complex organizational issues quickly and then acting decisively to address them, often in environments where there may be resistance to change. A critical element of success will be reshaping the culture of the organization. The current environment reflects low accountability, inconsistent engagement, and a lack of alignment around performance standards. The incoming president will need to establish a culture where employees understand expectations, take ownership of results, and see a direct connection between their work and the success of the business. This will require strong communication, visible leadership presence, and the ability to instill both discipline and belief across all levels of the organization. The role also involves making meaningful talent decisions. There is recognition that portions of the current team will need to be upgraded in order to reach the desired level of performance. This includes conducting a thorough assessment of personnel, differentiating between high-potential contributors and those who are not aligned with the future state of the business, and building a team capable of executing at a higher level. The leader will need to balance urgency with thoughtful evaluation, ensuring that decisions are both timely and well-informed. From a financial standpoint, the opportunity is centered on rebuilding profitability through operational excellence rather than relying on market-driven project cycles. By improving efficiency, strengthening service revenue, and aligning cost structures with current business realities, the president will position the organization for more predictable and sustainable performance. The broader objective is to return the business to a higher level of earnings while creating a model that can scale effectively over time. This position offers the ability to directly influence every aspect of the organization, from frontline execution to long-term strategy. Success will be defined not only by financial recovery, but by creating a disciplined, process-driven, and culturally aligned business that can consistently perform regardless of market fluctuations. The Company:
The organization is a leading provider of HVAC and mechanical services across North America, operating through a network of locally managed business units supported by centralized strategic oversight. It follows a decentralized model that allows leaders within each business to operate with a high degree of autonomy while benefiting from the scale, capital resources, and strategic direction of a larger platform. The company's long-term strategy is built around developing strong, service-oriented businesses anchored in recurring maintenance revenue. This approach creates more stable and predictable financial outcomes, stronger customer relationships, and higher margins over time. Backed by private equity ownership, the organization has grown significantly through acquisitions and continues to position itself for long-term expansion and potential future liquidity events. Within this structure, the business represents both a challenge and a significant opportunity. While it operates in a robust and competitive market, its internal execution has not kept pace with the broader platform. The intent is to realign the business with the company's core operating philosophy and unlock the value that already exists within its market position and capabilities. The Boss:
The role reports to a regional president responsible for the broader market, who brings a disciplined and analytical approach shaped by a strong financial background and extensive leadership experience. He inherited the current situation and has developed a clear and candid perspective on both the issues within the business and the actions required to correct them. His leadership style is direct and transparent, with a strong emphasis on accountability and results. He places significant importance on building culture intentionally and believes that consistent behaviors, leadership presence, and clear expectations ultimately define how an organization performs. He expects leaders within his organization to operate with a high level of ownership, take initiative in solving problems, and remain focused on continuous improvement. At the same time, he recognizes the importance of supporting his leaders by providing access to resources, guidance, and executive alignment when needed. The relationship with this leader will be highly engaged and performance-oriented. He is committed to making the necessary changes within the business and has demonstrated that he is willing to act decisively to achieve the desired outcomes. The individual stepping into this role will have direct access to senior leadership across the organization, ensuring both visibility and support at the highest levels. The Position:
The Business Unit President has full responsibility for the performance of the business, overseeing operations, service delivery, sales, financial results, and organizational development. The role requires balancing strategic direction with hands-on execution, ensuring that plans are effectively implemented and results are consistently achieved. Essential Functions (Other duties may be assigned):
Work Environment:
This role requires a consistent on-site presence and active engagement across all levels of the organization. The environment is dynamic and evolving, with significant emphasis on implementing change and improving performance. The leader must be comfortable working through ambiguity while maintaining focus on execution and results. Compensation:
Compensation includes a base salary, performance-based incentives aligned with business results, and participation in long-term value creation initiatives within the broader organization.
