ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: Leadership Maintain a neat, well‑groomed personal appearance at all times and observe company dress regulations; enforce grooming standards throughout the department; must wear an approved hat or hair net and clean uniform while in the department and ensure all personnel in the bakery department do the same. Responsible for the overall performance of the bakery department when the AM manager is not working. Maintain good communications with superiors and subordinates throughout the store. Direct and supervise team members in the absence of the bakery manager. Perform all the duties and job functions of an experienced baker or cake decorator. Assist in supervising and training other bakery department personnel. Notify manager of personnel situations or policy violations that adversely affect store operating performance or require disciplinary action. Perform any other work‑related duties as assigned. Effectively supervise other bakery department personnel and train all new employees. Ensure company values are practiced and taught. Communicate promptly with customers, supervisors, coworkers, and customers over pages, verbal requests, and telephones. Operational Comply with all local, state, and federal health and civil code regulations. Comply with all state, county, and local weights and measures laws and labeling requirements. Follow approved procedures for receiving product, price marking, and restocking to ensure quality protection, accuracy, and product rotation. Verify bakery department receiving to ensure that items listed on vendor invoices are delivered; check product for quality, count or weight, and condition. Transport products to preparation or storage areas, including refrigerated storage boxes. Control department expenses and use energy conservation practices. Assist in ordering and maintain inventory control to ensure freshness, product quality, and turnover for maximum sales while minimizing out‑of‑stocks or overstocks. Follow opening and closing bakery department procedures. Prepare reports (orders, purchases and sales shrink, processing invoices). Follow all inventory control procedures to maximize product freshness, quality, turnover, and availability for maximum sales. Confirm invoice accuracy (item descriptions, sizes, quantities, pricing) during product deliveries; record invoices accurately on the receiving log and place signed invoices in the designated secure area. Follow approved bakery department plans for effective space management based on product movement, consumer demand, and profitability. Keep displays fully stocked and attractively merchandised at all times according to tag allocation, product movement, or department standards. Rotate perishable merchandise in accordance with store policy and product code dates and pull all out‑of‑code merchandise. Observe local competitive activity pertaining to the bakery department and keep others informed. Maintain general housekeeping and sanitation standards in compliance with store policy and state and local health regulations on a regular, ongoing basis. Follow the planned program of maintenance on cases, back‑room coolers, ovens, and other bakery department equipment. Check refrigeration and baking equipment for proper performance at least once per shift. Use and maintain equipment in good working order. Immediately advise the department manager of any maintenance or equipment problems. Take action to control shrinkage and pilferage losses; observe security standards by staying alert to customer actions and behavior; report abnormal behavior to the store manager or security. Compose and write reports, departmental memos, business correspondence, menus, and customer display signs or sales suggestions. Be knowledgeable and familiar with the nature and duties of every staff position in the department, including procedures, policies, and operations. Safety Assist in completing safety observations and Axonify training. Comply with company compliance initiatives (e.g., production planning). Ensure that all bakery personnel use the required safety equipment (e.g., PPE). Occasionally lift up to 70 pounds (e.g., carrying boxes of records and forms) and frequently lift moderate amounts of weight. Follow safety rules.REQUIREMENTS AND CONDITIONS
Education/Experience High school education or equivalent; basic bakery knowledge and basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook). At least 1 year of retail sales and management experience. Must be willing to relocate to a store within 20 miles from home, depending on business needs. Certificates/Licenses/Registrations Sexual Harassment Prevention/Respect Values Training/Boss to Coach/Leading Through People; Issue Free Training. Skills Required Compose and write reports, departmental memos, business correspondence, menus, and customer display signs or sales suggestions. Be knowledgeable and familiar with every staff position’s duties, procedures, policies, and operations. Physical Demands and Work Conditions The physical demands and work conditions described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Some requirements may be modified to accommodate individuals with disabilities: Regularly sit, stand, and use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. Require close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Require climbing ladders to retrieve items from overhead racks, elevated shelves, and other storage areas, sweeping, mopping, dusting, and lifting trash containers. Require the ability to respond quickly to emergencies such as fires, spills, breakage of glass or plastic containers, security assistance requests, and customer accidents. Handle flour, spices, powdered substances, meat products, and fresh produce without adverse allergic reactions. Tolerate moderate dust and chemical fumes from common household cleaning agents during routine housekeeping duties. Occasional exposure to refrigerated frozen storage (as low as 20°F below zero) and heated ovens and high temperatures.
