Merck's Intellectual Property Group seeks law students for a 10–12 week internship (May–August 2027) in Rahway, New Jersey. Interns will work on patent prosecution, trademark strategy, and IP litigation support alongside experienced attorneys, with mentorship and exposure to pharmaceutical industry practices.
Responsibilities
- Assist in drafting, filing, and prosecuting patent applications with USPTO and international offices
- Analyze company and third-party patents and applications with IP attorneys
- Collaborate on patent strategy for innovations with researchers and legal team
- Support patent litigation matters and counsel on freedom-to-operate and patentability issues
- Present final project on patent law issue to IP Group leadership
Requirements
- Current law student (1L full-time or 1L/2L part-time) pursuing J.D. from accredited school
- Undergraduate or graduate degree in science or engineering field
- Available for full 10–12 week internship period
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher preferred
- Strong interest in IP law and USPTO patent bar exam
- Excellent analytical ability and academic achievement
Compensation: $39,908–$111,111 USD
