Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

Under the direction of licensed nursing personnel, performs direct and indirect designated resident care within the scope of practice as defined by the certification. The Certified Nursing Assistant must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit. The individual must understand the principles of growth and development across the life span. The candidate should possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to age-specific needs. Care will be provided to adult and geriatric patient groups. Resident daily living needs must be met as outlined in the plan of care. This includes hygiene, grooming, dressing, incontinence care, turning, positioning, skin care, and elimination needs. Documentation must be completed per protocol. Resident environment and safety must be maintained as outlined in the plan of care. This includes answering call lights and alarms promptly, and maintaining cleanliness of units. Behavior and fall prevention must be practiced diligently. Documentation must be completed per protocol. Residents' nutritional needs will be addressed as outlined in the plan of care. This encompasses meal delivery and preparation, adaptive equipment, feeding, and honoring resident preferences. Documentation must be completed per protocol. Residents' rehabilitative needs must be met as outlined in the plan of care. This includes range of motion, ambulation, transfers, proper body alignment, and use of assistive devices. Documentation must be completed per protocol. Residents' rights, refusals, and concerns must be reported to the Charge Nurse or Supervising Nurse in a timely manner. Changes in resident physical, emotional, and psychosocial status should be identified and communicated to the Charge Nurse promptly. Occupational exposure to blood-borne pathogens is reasonably anticipated. Required tasks involve potential contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues.
