Labor and Delivery RN

Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery / Postpartum Registered Nurse (RN) for a 13-week travel assignment in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. This position is ideal for an RN with at least 2 years of recent Labor & Delivery experience who is comfortable caring for patients throughout labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum. The RN will provide comprehensive maternal and newborn care, assist with deliveries, monitor fetal and maternal status, support postpartum recovery, and respond quickly to obstetric or neonatal changes in condition. Candidates must hold an active Colorado RN license or qualifying compact license and maintain current AHA BLS, ACLS, NRP, and STABLE certifications. Key Responsibilities Provide direct nursing care to patients throughout labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum. Perform comprehensive maternal and fetal assessments. Monitor fetal heart rate patterns and uterine activity. Assess labor progression and identify changes in maternal or fetal condition. Independently manage laboring patients within scope and facility protocols. Assist physicians and providers during vaginal deliveries and obstetric procedures. Prepare and support patients requiring cesarean delivery. Provide immediate postpartum assessment and recovery care. Monitor maternal bleeding, pain, vital signs, and overall recovery. Provide routine newborn assessment and care within scope of practice. Support neonatal stabilization when needed. Administer medications, IV fluids, and other therapies according to provider orders. Educate patients and families regarding labor, delivery, postpartum recovery, breastfeeding, newborn care, and discharge instructions. Support bonding and family‑centered care. Maintain accurate and timely nursing documentation using Meditech. Participate in shift handoffs and interdisciplinary communication. Follow patient‑safety, infection‑control, and maternal‑child nursing standards. Participate in required weekend and call rotations. Required Qualifications Candidates must have: Active Colorado Registered Nurse license or qualifying compact RN license RN license in good standing Minimum 2 years of recent Labor & Delivery RN experience Current American Heart Association BLS Current American Heart Association ACLS Current NRP – Neonatal Resuscitation Program Current STABLE certification Strong maternal and fetal assessment skills Ability to manage laboring and postpartum patients in an acute‑care environment Strong clinical judgment and communication skills Ability to participate in call and weekend rotations Required Clinical Experience Candidates should be comfortable with: Labor and delivery nursing Postpartum care Maternal assessment Fetal heart rate monitoring Labor progression Vaginal delivery support Cesarean-section preparation Newborn assessment Neonatal stabilization Postpartum recovery Patient and family education Emergency obstetric response Preferred Qualifications Strong candidates may also have experience with: High-risk Labor & Delivery Induction and augmentation of labor Preeclampsia Diabetes in pregnancy VBAC/TOLAC Cesarean-section circulation Mother/Baby nursing Nursery care Previous travel nursing experience Meditech EMR Key Clinical Skills Successful candidates should be comfortable with: Labor management Electronic fetal monitoring Maternal‑fetal assessment Postpartum assessment Newborn care Medication administration IV therapy Obstetric emergency response Neonatal support Patient education Clinical documentation Interdisciplinary communication Schedule Requirements Night Shift Three 12-hour shifts per week 36 hours per week Rotating weekends are required. Call rotation is required. Exact call frequency may vary based on department staffing and operational needs. Additional Requirements Influenza vaccination is required unless an approved exemption is permitted under facility policy. All required licenses and certifications must remain current throughout the assignment. You should have strong fetal monitoring skills, excellent clinical judgment, and the ability to remain calm and effective during urgent maternal or neonatal situations.
