We are looking for a detail-oriented Payroll Clerk to join a team in Chesapeake, Virginia in a contract capacity with the potential for a permanent role. This position supports payroll operations through accurate document handling, correspondence management, and administrative coordination in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate brings strong data entry skills, sound judgment with sensitive information, and a proactive approach to supporting both routine tasks and special assignments.

Responsibilities:
• Manage incoming payroll-related correspondence from various channels and ensure each item is routed and processed accurately.
• Review, organize, and maintain records in accordance with departmental filing and coding standards.
• Draft and send employment separation notices while maintaining accuracy and timeliness.
• Provide backup support for the handling of student loan deduction orders as needed.
• Prepare, scan, and index garnishment paperwork and related communications for proper recordkeeping.
• Compile, digitize, and file bi-weekly payroll documents and other supporting materials.
• Safeguard confidential payroll information and follow established internal control procedures.
• Collaborate with payroll leadership and cross-functional partners on special projects and additional operational tasks.• At least 1 year of experience in payroll, administrative support, or a related processing role.
• Proficiency in document scanning, indexing, and maintaining organized digital records.
• Strong data entry skills, including accuracy with numeric information in high-volume settings.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities with urgency while maintaining a high level of precision.
• Comfortable handling confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills when working with colleagues and business partners.
• Willingness to learn new tools, systems, and processes as business needs evolve.
