Curriculum & Resources: Curriculum is provided for most subjects, with the ability toitle adapt lessons to meet scholars’ individual needs. Teachers receive curriculum maps, pacing guides, a repository of instructional materials and videos, interim assessments, item banks, and other resources. Advisory: Lead advisory classes that build relationships, support social‑emotional growth, and strengthen school culture. Community & Family Engagement: Partner with families and community organizations through our Community Schools and parent engagement initiatives. Professional Development: Participate in regular instructional coaching and weekly professional development to support growth and continuous improvement. Essential Responsibilities Provide excellent college‑preparatory instruction to all scholars. Develop and maintain a positive, achievement‑oriented, supportive, and collaborative culture of high expectations that motivates and inspires scholars to learn at college‑preparatory levels. Effectively execute assigned curriculum and provide just‑in‑time supports to reach every scholar, regardless of prior academic background, disability, or English language fluency. Internalize assigned curriculum tied to specific grade level and content standards, preparing daily lesson plans, instructional materials, and exit tickets aligned to rigorous college‑ready standards. Use exit tickets, unit tests, interim exams, and other assessment data to determine differentiated re‑teaching needed to advance scholars toward mastery. Collaborate with peers to ensure that all scholars receive the appropriate support, including accommodations, to access grade‑level content. Uphold Alliance values and standards of excellence, creating a coherent and supportive classroom culture to support scholar engagement, learning, and well‑being. Provide scholars opportunities aligned with the Alliance’s college‑ready graduate profile and support the organization’s aspiration to prepare at least 75% of scholars for a four‑year college degree. Seek opportunities, both individually and through school‑based initiatives, to build strong and collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, families, scholars, and alumni. Ideal Candidates Belief: Hold the belief that all scholars, regardless of economic or social demographics, deserve a quality education and can earn a four‑year college degree. Social Justice: Desire to teach in systemically underserved communities in Los Angeles and to be part of Alliance’s social justice mission by integrating anti‑racist, pro‑Black, student‑centered instruction. Culture: Demonstrate an ability to develop a positive, achievement‑oriented, supportive, and collaborative culture of high expectations that motivates scholars. Data: Know how to use data, technology, and innovative teaching methods to monitor growth and scholar progress, drive classroom learning, and prepare scholars to succeed after high school. Expertise: Have strong academic content expertise, instructional and classroom management skills, and in‑depth knowledge of effective evaluation and assessment techniques. Mindset: Hold a growth mindset and commit to continuously honing your teaching craft. Relationship‑Building: Have strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship‑building skills with both children and adults. Minimum Qualifications A California teaching credential in the assigned subject area(s) and a valid English Learner Authorization are required. Applicants holding any of the following credentials by their start date may apply: California Single Subject Credential (Foundational‑Level General Science, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Geoscience, or Physics—Clear or Preliminary); California University or District Intern Credential (Foundational‑Level General Science, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Geoscience, or Physics); or an equivalent out‑of‑state credential transferable to California. For Middle School only: California Multiple Subject or Single Subject Credential with an Introductory Supplementary Authorization in Science. Applicants without a credential must provide a copy of their transcript for evaluation to determine eligibility for an emergency teaching permit. Applicants without a current credential or a verifiable pathway toward obtaining a California teaching credential will not be considered. Benefits Competitive salaries commensurate with experience.
