Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant

Summary

We are seeking a dedicated Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) to join our skilled nursing and long-term care community. In this role, you will work under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist in our In-House therapy department, to provide therapeutic interventions that support residents in maintaining or improving their independence, safety, and quality of life. The ideal candidate will bring strong clinical skills, compassion, and a team-oriented approach to delivering resident-centered care in a supportive environment.

 

Essential Functions

• Monitor patient progress and document changes in their condition.

• Utilize knowledge of anatomy and physiology to inform treatment strategies and ensure patient safety.

• Educate patients and families about therapeutic exercises and techniques.

• Carry out treatment plans developed by the supervising Occupational Therapist.

• Assist residents with therapeutic activities that improve mobility, strength, coordination, and daily living skills.

• Document resident progress, treatments, and responses in compliance with state, federal, and facility guidelines.

• Provide encouragement and support to help residents achieve their highest level of independence.

• Collaborate with the rehabilitation team, nursing staff, and families to ensure quality, resident-centered care.

• Maintain a safe and positive environment during all therapy sessions.

 

 

Required Skills/Abilities

• Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) license

• Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, and medical terminology

• Experience in assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs)

• Familiarity with care plans and patient care in various settings, including home health and skilled nursing facilities

• Ability to work with diverse populations, including geriatrics and pediatrics

• Understanding of occupational health and acute care practices

 

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

 

 

Working Environment & Physical Demands

• This position is required to regularly work on campus.

• Works in a well-lit and well-ventilated facility. May be exposed to confused, belligerent or physically aggressive residents, may be exposed to contagious diseases and mental stress. Subject to frequent interruptions. Manual dexterity, good vision and hearing is required.

 

Physical Demands:

This role requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally, perform moderate and light lifting throughout the day, and carry up to 15 pounds for short distances. The position involves frequent pushing of wheelchairs weighing up to 280 pounds over distances of up to 350 feet multiple times per shift. Employees must be able to reach above shoulder level, as well as walk, bend, twist, squat, and turn continuously throughout the entire workday.

 

Required Education, Experience, Licenses, and Certifications

• Occupational Therapy Assistant License (Required)

• Specialize in Geriatrics (Preferred)

• Specialize in Physical & Rehabilitation Medicine (Preferred)
