Principal Research Scientist I - Analytical Development - PDST - Late-Stage Process Analytics

Principal Research Scientist I will lead analytical activities for a high-throughput testing group supporting biologics process development at late-stage clinical programs. The role requires strong technical expertise in separation-based analytical methods, demonstrated leadership capabilities, and cross-functional collaboration within AbbVie's Operations division.

Responsibilities

Lead analytical activities and serve as subject matter expert for separation-based methods within high-throughput testing group
Evaluate and select fit-for-purpose analytical technologies; provide technical guidance on method development, execution, and troubleshooting
Oversee sample testing schedules, prioritization, and delivery of high-quality results to support process development timelines
Support implementation of automation and high-throughput experimentation workflows; drive continuous improvement initiatives
Mentor, train, and supervise junior scientists while partnering with process development experts on data interpretation

Requirements

PhD in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, chemical engineering, or related discipline with 6+ years analytical development experience; or MS with 10+ years
Proven leadership of analytical development activities for mAbs, multi-specifics, antibody-drug conjugates, and fusion proteins
Hands-on method development expertise in HPLC, capillary electrophoresis, and protein/impurity analysis techniques
Direct people management experience with demonstrated ability to mentor and supervise junior scientists
Strong critical thinking, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills in fast-paced environments
Excellent cross-functional communication and interpersonal skills
Experience with automation preferred; mass spectrometry and ELISA experience a plus
