Qualifications:
- Valid certification in Special Education (New York State required)
- Previous experience teaching high school students in a special education setting
- Strong knowledge of IEP processes, differentiated instruction, and classroom management
- Ability to build rapport with students, parents, and staff
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
Responsibilities:
- Deliver engaging, individualized instruction to students with special needs, adapting lessons to accommodate learning differences
- Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in alignment with state and federal guidelines
- Collaborate with general education teachers and other support staff to ensure students’ success across all settings
- Assess student progress regularly, maintaining accurate and confidential records
- Foster a safe, supportive, and positive classroom culture that encourages self-advocacy and independence
- Communicate effectively with families regarding student progress and needs
