If you thrive on solving hard, tangible engineering problems, and want your work to matter on real platforms, not just paper, this is your seat at the table.What You Will DoLead mechanical design and analysis for naval power conversion, propulsion, and energy storage systems, from concept through qualification testing.Own component and system-level design packages: 3D models, drawings, tolerance stacks, and GD&T using industry-standard CAD/PLM tools.Perform structural, thermal, and vibration analysis (FEA) to validate designs against MIL-STD and naval shock/vibration requirements.Partner with electrical, systems, and manufacturing engineering to integrate mechanical designs into complex electromechanical assemblies.Support prototyping, test planning, and root-cause investigations during qualification and environmental testing.Mentor junior engineers and contribute to design reviews, technical proposals, and program milestone deliverables.Interface directly with customers and Navy stakeholders on technical requirements and design trade-offs.Education & Experience RequirementsBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering(or related field); Master's a plus.8+ yearsof mechanical design experience, ideally in defense, aerospace, marine, or other highly regulated industries.Experience serving as the technical lead for project teams spanning design, analysis, and test.Hands-on expertise withSolidWorks, Creo, or NXand FEA tools (ANSYS, Abaqus, or similar).Working knowledge ofMIL-STD-167, MIL-S-901 (shock), GD&T, and DFM/DFAprinciples.Experience taking designs from concept through production, including test and qualification support.Strong communication skills - you can explain a tolerance stack to an engineer and a schedule risk to a program manager.At Leonardo DRS, mechanical engineers don't just draw parts - they solve problems that keep sailors safe and systems running under real-world stress.
