Business Consultant – SAP Subject Matter Expert (SME)

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Business Consultant – SAP Subject Matter Expert (SME) to provide functional and technical leadership across SAP-enabled business transformation initiatives. This role will serve as the trusted advisor for SAP solutions, delivering strategic guidance, solution design expertise, and business process consulting to maximize value from SAP investments.

The consultant will work closely with business stakeholders, solution architects, project teams, and technology leaders to drive SAP implementation, optimization, modernization, and support initiatives across Finance, Supply Chain, Procurement, Manufacturing, Logistics, and Enterprise Applications.

Key Responsibilities

SAP Domain Leadership

• Serve as the primary Subject Matter Expert (SME) for SAP S/4HANA, SAP ECC, and related SAP solutions.
• Provide expert guidance on SAP capabilities, industry best practices, solution adoption, and business process optimization.
• Advise business and technology stakeholders on SAP roadmaps, solution architecture, and future-state operating models.
• Support digital transformation initiatives through SAP-enabled innovation and strategic recommendations.
• Contribute to business case development and value realization strategies for SAP investments.

Business Process Consulting

• Analyze business requirements and recommend SAP-enabled solutions aligned with organizational objectives.
• Lead stakeholder workshops, requirement gathering sessions, fit-gap analyses, and solution assessments.
• Design optimized business processes leveraging SAP standard functionality and best practices.
• Drive process harmonization, standardization, and continuous improvement across business functions.
• Identify opportunities to enhance operational efficiency, reduce complexity, and improve business performance.

Solution Design & Delivery

• Review, validate, and provide guidance on functional and technical solution designs.
• Support SAP implementation, migration, upgrade, rollout, enhancement, and optimization programs.
• Ensure solutions meet business requirements, compliance obligations, operational standards, and technology objectives.
• Provide subject matter expertise throughout testing, deployment, cutover, hypercare, and stabilization phases.
• Collaborate with project teams to ensure successful solution delivery and business adoption.

Stakeholder Management & Advisory

• Partner with business leaders, project managers, enterprise architects, consultants, and delivery teams.
• Act as a trusted advisor to both business and technology stakeholders.
• Present solution recommendations, strategic options, risks, and impact assessments to leadership teams.
• Facilitate decision-making for complex business and SAP-related challenges.
• Build strong relationships across functional and technical teams to support successful transformation outcomes.

Governance, Risk & Quality Assurance

• Review solution quality, implementation approaches, and adherence to design standards.
• Ensure compliance with enterprise architecture principles, security standards, governance frameworks, and best practices.
• Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks, dependencies, and technical challenges.
• Support audit, regulatory, compliance, and internal control requirements.
• Promote quality assurance and governance throughout the SAP solution lifecycle.

Experience & Qualifications

Required Experience

• 7 to 10 years of experience in SAP consulting, implementation, enhancement, or application support.
• Deep expertise in one or more SAP domains, including:
  • Finance (FI/CO)
  • Supply Chain
  • Procurement
  • Manufacturing
  • Logistics
  • SAP Ariba
  • SAP BW/BI
  • SAP S/4HANA
• Strong understanding of end-to-end business processes and SAP integration touchpoints across enterprise functions.
• Experience supporting SAP transformation, migration, modernization, and optimization programs.
• Proven stakeholder management, business consulting, and advisory capabilities.
• Experience working with global delivery teams, cross-functional business stakeholders, and technology organizations.

Preferred Skills

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and solution design capabilities.
• Experience conducting fit-gap analysis, process assessments, and SAP solution evaluations.
• Knowledge of SAP integration technologies, enterprise architecture principles, and digital transformation initiatives.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and facilitation skills.
• Ability to influence stakeholders and drive business process improvement through SAP best practices.
