Infant/Child Death Review Coordinator

This is a Time-Limited (14) position. The Infant/Child Death Review Coordinator is responsible for coordinating all aspects of the ICDR process, including scheduling and facilitating multidisciplinary review meetings; preparing and distributing case materials; and ensuring adherence to statutory, confidentiality, and data governance requirements. The position serves as a lead abstractor, reviewing and synthesizing complex records such as medical records, death certificates, autopsy reports, law enforcement reports, and social service documentation to accurately abstract required data elements. The role also functions as the data entry lead, ensuring complete, timely, and accurate entry of case information into required state and national databases and conducting quality assurance checks to maintain data integrity. Additional responsibilities include managing case tracking and documentation; coordinating with coroners, medical examiners, healthcare providers, law enforcement, child welfare, and other partners to obtain records; supporting required state and federal reporting; and assisting with data analysis, summaries, and reports used for prevention planning and program evaluation.

Knowledge of medical terminology, disease processes, and clinical standards related to maternal, infant, and child health. Ability to identify patterns, contributing factors, and inconsistencies in clinical records. Skill in documenting findings clearly, objectively, and consistently for review teams and reporting. Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams including clinicians, epidemiologists, legal staff, and program leadership. Emotional resilience and ability to work with child, maternal, and infant death data respectfully and objectively. Self-directed and able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Typically requires a Bachelor's degree and 4-7 years of experience. Hiring agency prefers experience reviewing, interpreting, and abstracting information from complex medical records, including hospital, EMS, autopsy, and coroner records. Experience working with confidential, sensitive, or legally protected data. Experience using electronic health records (Epic preferred) and data abstraction or surveillance systems.
