Assistant Coach - Men's Rugby Coach

Position Information Title: Assistant Coach – Men's Rugby Coach Department: Athletics and Recreation, Bridgewater State University Position Summary: Oversee and coordinate the day‑to‑day operations of the athletic team, including teaching skills and strategies for the specific sport during practice and games in the traditional and non‑traditional seasons. Support the club officer operations of the Men’s Rugby Team Club during practices, games, shows and/or competitions. Encourage sportsmanship, develop student leaders, and promote fairness and authenticity across the club. Position Type: Temporary (9‑month term) Responsibilities Teach skills and strategies to the Men’s Rugby Team during practices, games, shows, and competitions. Adhere to all university, athletics department, and governing body rules and regulations. Self‑administer mandatory SSTA payroll training and use the university online payroll procedures during the contract. Encourage sportsmanship, positive societal attitudes, and support team members in balancing athletics with nonathletic pursuits. Focus on club players as four‑year undergraduate participants. Support ethnic and gender diversity for all constituents. Maintain fairness, openness, and honesty in coach‑member and coach‑administrator relationships. Serve as an advisory body on club issues and concerns for the campus recreation department. Promote the university’s mission and goals. Assist in club transportation via university vans if requested by club officers. Coordinate team logistics with athletics department staff and support personnel (managers, scorekeepers, etc.). Hire, supervise, and evaluate assistant coaches. Perform any other duties as reasonably assigned. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree required. Minimum of 1–2 years of coaching and/or competing experience. Must attend mandatory club sport meetings as requested. Must keep up to date with legislation surrounding the sport at association/conference levels. Must possess strong interpersonal skills and excellent verbal and written communication abilities. Must be willing to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as mandatory scheduling dictates. Must hold current First Aid/CPR (AED) certification. Preferred Qualifications Valid U.S. driver’s license.
