Certified Medical Assistant - Spanish Speaking Preferred San Mateo County Health - San Mateo Medical Center and its outpatient clinics are seeking experienced Certified Medical Assistants (CMAs) to join our care teams. Extra Help Extra-help positions are short-term employment for up to 1040 hours (about six months); employment might end sooner. Extra-help assignments are at-will and the employee is paid hourly. Term Term positions are designated for a specific period, from 6 months to a maximum of 3 years. Benefits are similar to regular positions except for retirement. Compensation Medical Services Assistants II assigned to the clinics and performing advanced patient care duties receive a 6.2% differential in addition to all other compensation. Examples of Duties Accurately take and record the condition, respiration, pulse, temperature, and blood pressure of patients; record other pertinent information. Apply non-sterile dressings and administer non-medicated treatments under supervision. Carry out rehabilitation procedures; perform range-of-motion exercises. Assist in therapeutic milieu programs. Advise patients on restorative equipment. Observe and practice isolation techniques. Operate sterilization equipment. Transport specimens, records, and related items. Enter and retrieve information in automated systems. Greet and escort patients. Perform related duties as assigned. Additional Duties (with Training) Perform injections and immunizations. Perform finger stick tests including glucose testing. Perform skin tests including PPDs. Perform venipuncture and blood draws. Perform hearing and vision tests. Perform waived CLIA tests such as dipstick UAs and pregnancy tests. Track and record laboratory test results. Take patient histories, including risk factors. Set up, administer, and record EKG results. Follow provider orders regarding prescribed treatments. Teach and counsel patients on health-related subjects as directed. Qualifications Certification Requirement: Possession of a Medical Assistant Certificate or a certificate of completion or degree from an accredited medical assisting program is required. Submission of the certificate at the time of application is mandatory. Bilingual Fluency: Fluency in both English and Spanish is required for bilingual positions. Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. Typically one year of experience in an outpatient clinic or doctor's office as a nurse's assistant or medical assistant. Knowledge of: Principles, techniques, and procedures specific to the area of assignment. Patient care services related to personal hygiene, comfort, treatment, transportation, rehabilitation, and physical or psychosocial needs. Infection control. Diagnostic imaging. Safe lifting techniques. Theory and practice of total body substance isolation. Patients' rights. Elder and child abuse, and domestic violence reporting requirements. Skill/Ability to: Follow oral and written instructions. Communicate effectively orally and in writing. Perform a variety of tasks and activities. Develop and maintain empathetic attitudes toward patients. Assist with patient care tasks such as bathing, feeding, bedmaking, dressing, and sterilization of equipment. Observe and record patient conditions and vital signs. Lift and transport patients and heavy items. Work with patients with multiple diagnoses. Work with a culturally, socio-economically diverse patient population of varying ages.
