Speech Language Pathologist (Secondary)

Job Description Durham Public Schools Exceptional Children’s Department seeks a Speech Language Pathologist (Secondary) to provide high-quality speech-language services across the district. The role involves part‑time direct student services and coaching duties, covering therapy, evaluations, leave coverage, and workload relief. Responsibilities Coach and mentor new and existing SLPs, supporting performance improvement. Serve as CFY Supervisor, completing documentation, coaching, and observations for CF SLPs pursuing state and national licensing. Model and share best practices in clinical service delivery. Demonstrate clinical competence in AAC, multilingualism, deafness/hearing, feeding/mealtime participation, literacy, fluency/stuttering, voice, and other school-based services. Apply knowledge of PK‑12 formal and informal assessments. Maintain proficiency in high‑school transition processes and compliance with laws, policies, and procedures related to eligibility and IEP/PSSP development. Manage workload including screenings, evaluations, therapy, scheduling, supports, consults, and correspondence. Produce thorough written documentation: evaluation reports, therapy notes, correspondence, and ECATS entries. Facilitate SLP trainings and regularly scheduled small‑group Professional Learning Communities (PLCs). Collaborate with Lead SLPs to plan and execute professional development that meets departmental needs. Qualifications Master’s Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders (Speech‑Language Pathology). Licensed by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Speech‑Language Pathologist and Audiologist. At least 3 years of experience in Durham Public Schools. Demonstrated expertise in informal and formal PK‑12 communication assessments and service delivery for diverse populations.
