The Arc of Adams County is a nonprofit organization committed to protecting and promoting the human rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and actively supporting their full inclusion and participation in the community throughout their lifetimes.

The Arc of Adams County is seeking a passionate and dedicated Adult, Child and Family Advocate to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). As a non-attorney advocate, this role involves a flexible and individualized approach to advocacy, depending on the unique needs of each person served. Responsibilities include providing information and referrals, offering technical assistance, and delivering direct intervention and support to ensure that children and adults with I/DD have access to inclusive, high-quality services. The Advocate plays a critical role in empowering individuals and families, promoting equity, and fostering systems that support the full participation of adults and children with I/DD in their communities.

Key responsibilities include:

• Advocacy Planning & Service Coordination
• Assess advocacy issues and individual needs of adults, children and families with I/DD.
• Determine advocacy needs and develop individualized action plans.
• Develop advocacy plans based on appropriate processes and procedures.
• Manage and track multiple cases while prioritizing issues.
• Maintain and update caseloads and advocacy database.
• Demonstrate the agency's style and philosophy of advocacy strategies.
• Direct Individual Advocacy
• Objectively investigate situations to obtain necessary information.
• Initiate intervention efforts and problem-solving strategies for resolution.
• Professionally communicate with team members (e.g., educators, service providers, agencies) to resolve issues and address needs.
• Maintain professional boundaries while advocating on behalf of clients.
• Outreach, Training, & Community Engagement
• Provide information, resources, and technical assistance to families, individuals, and professionals.
• Develop and implement training programs for families, individuals with I/DD, professionals, and the community.
• Participate in community education efforts to support The Arc's mission and promote awareness of rights and services.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in social work, education, human services, or a related field. Masters preferred. Relevant experience may substitute for education.
• Knowledge of intellectual and developmental disabilities, special education, and disability services.
• Ability to research relevant policies, laws, and resources needed for case resolution.
• Strong interpersonal and advocacy skills, ability to build trust with diverse families.
• Apply effective skills in conflict management, mediation, and negotiation.
• Exhibit strong self-awareness and interpersonal skills in both verbal and written communication.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Work independently while also collaborating effectively as a team member.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and online case management systems such as Apricot.
• Valid Colorado driver's license and reliable transportation required.
