Posting Summary The Center for Advanced Biotechnology and Medicine (CABM) is seeking a part‑time Temporary Research Assistant on the Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences campus in Piscataway. The role focuses on characterizing zebrafish and mouse models of porphyria and studying the function, regulation, and disease association of intermediate filament cytoskeletal proteins in digestive organs. The assistant will provide research and technical assistance to laboratory members and conduct research related to ongoing projects. The incumbent will perform experiments requiring standard cell, biochemical, physiological, and molecular biology techniques as well as mouse genetics, and will maintain detailed records of experimental work. Key Responsibilities Conduct research under supervision studying intermediate filament proteins in digestive organs and working with porphyria mouse and zebrafish models. Assist with propagation of zebrafish, including microinjections, isolation of proteins from bone and other tissues using microdissection, and performing specialized staining and microscopy. Perform experiments in mice, including maintaining mouse colonies, breeding, genotyping, and data recording. Provide support to senior lab members with mouse porphyria model characterization. Perform cell and tissue cultures, maintain culture stocks and records, and conduct standard cell and molecular biology techniques such as PCR, qPCR, gel electrophoresis, immunoprecipitation, western blotting, histology, immunofluorescence, and microscopy. Accurately document and maintain detailed records of experimentation and results. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Biological Science or a related scientific discipline. Demonstrated knowledge of standard biochemical, molecular biology, and cell biology techniques. Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English. Relevant prior laboratory experience working with mice as model systems is preferred. Salary and Benefits Hourly wage range: $17–$20 per hour. Physical Demands and Work Environment Physical Demands : standing, sitting, walking, talking, seeing, and hearing. Manual dexterity and vision sufficient for standard laboratory operations including pipetting and use of microscopes. Must be able to lift or exert force up to twenty pounds.
