Manual Lathe & Mill Machinist – Must-Have Requirements

• Proven experience operating manual lathes and mills
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications
• Strong experience holding tight tolerances
• Proficiency using precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges)
• Ability to set up jobs independently (tooling, speeds, feeds, offsets)
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
• Reliable attendance and ability to work day shift

Manual Lathe & Mill Machinist – Position Summary

The Manual Lathe & Mill Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating manual machining equipment to produce precision parts to exact specifications. This role requires a skilled machinist who can work independently, maintain tight tolerances, and ensure high-quality output in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Manual Lathe & Mill Machinist – Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Set up and operate manual lathes and milling machines
• Machine parts according to blueprints and work instructions
• Select proper tooling, speeds, and feeds for each job
• Perform in-process and final inspections using precision measuring tools
• Maintain tight tolerances and high-quality standards
• Make adjustments as needed to ensure accuracy and efficiency
• Perform basic machine maintenance and keep equipment in good condition
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area
• Collaborate with team members to meet production goals

* Set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments out of metal. Includes precision instrument makers who fabricate, modify, or repair mechanical instruments. May also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.
* Measure, examine, or test completed units to check for defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments, such as micrometers.
* Machine parts to specifications, using machine tools, such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders.
* Calculate dimensions or tolerances, using instruments, such as micrometers or vernier calipers.
