POSITION: Executive Director of Athletics

SALARY: Per Contractual Agreement up to $130,000

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

The Executive Director of Athletics provides strategic leadership, oversight, and administration of the district’s interscholastic athletic programs. This role ensures that all athletic activities promote student development, academic success, equity, sportsmanship, and compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. S/he will incur routine local travel, occasional overnight travel, night and weekend hours. Under direction of the Superintendent, the incumbent works independently using considerable leeway in determining priorities and independent decision making to accomplish duties and assignments within deadlines. Supervision is exercised over personnel assigned.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

• Oversee all district athletic programs with strategic, student-centered vision;
• Develop and implement a comprehensive vision and strategic plan for district athletics;
• Oversee all middle and high school athletic programs, including team offerings and seasonal operations;
• Lead the athletic department in upgrading the programs and opportunities for student-athletes including:
  • Higher student-athlete achievement and college readiness
  • State-of-the-art athletic and wellness facilities
  • Highly competitive athletics program
  • Highly effective coaches;
• Collaboratively plan, act, assess, monitor and revise all the initiatives described above and those assigned by the Superintendent;
• Oversee the recruitment, hiring, supervision, and evaluations of athletic directors, and coaches;
• Develop and manage athletic department financial performance and accountability;
• Ensure access and equitable participation for all students;
• Maintain a culture where student athletes feel challenged, supported, and inspired;
• Serve as the public face of the district’s athletic programs;
• Use data to identify the return on investment of the various initiatives described above;
• Evaluate and improve athletic programs to ensure alignment with district goals;
• Promote student-athlete achievement, wellness, and leadership development;
• Ensure compliance with state athletic associations, Title VI, Title IX, and district policies;
• Monitor eligibility requirements, transfer rules, and student participation standards;
• Serve as the district liaison to governing athletic bodies and conferences;
• Provide professional development and mentorship for coaching staff;
• Ensure coaches adhere to district expectations and ethical standards;
• Oversee purchasing equipment, uniforms, and facility use;
• Seek and manage sponsorships, partnerships, and fundraising opportunities;
• Promote academic achievement and character development among student-athletes;
• Implement programs focused on health, safety, and mental wellness;
• Coordinate scheduling of games, practices, and transportation;
• Oversee maintenance and improvement of athletic facilities;
• Ensure safety protocols and followed, including emergency preparedness;
• Build relationships with families, community members, and booster organizations;
• Promote athletic events and celebrate student achievements

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

• Thorough Knowledge of student athletics including strategic planning, budgeting, logistics, and leadership;
• Excellent communication skills with all stakeholders;
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
• Ability to prepare and deliver detailed presentations to a variety of groups;
• Ability to develop, process, and maintain all required records, reports, and related information;
• Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with parents, students, agencies and the general public;
• Ability to use independent judgment and discretion in directing and managing scope of authority;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree from a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education, in Education, Sports Management, Athletic Administration, Business or related field and 5 years of leadership experience in athletic administration, athletics or any team driven environment preferred.

NOTE : Verifiable part-time experience will be pro-rated to meet full-time experience requirements.
