Project RAISE STEM Transfer Advisor

The Project RAISE STEM Transfer Advisor works collaboratively with administrators, faculty, staff, and students at California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) and partner community colleges to support the transition from community college to CSUF for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) majors. The STEM Transfer Advisor provides pre-transfer, transition, and continuing advising support for community college and newly admitted and enrolled transfer STEM students at CSUF, and supports Natural Sciences and Mathematics (NSM) and Engineering and Computer Science (ECS) undergraduate student success efforts. The advisor will develop and implement programs and workshops that connect students to academic resources, improve retention, reduce equity gaps, and support progress toward degree. The program has a focus on STEM transfer students. The grant is funded through 2028 contingent on satisfactory performance to meet goals. Student Advising, Workshops, and Outreach Work on-site at partner community colleges (Fullerton College, Irvine Valley College, Orange Coast College) approximately 1.5 days per week (half day at each college), and at CSUF 3.5 days per week. Schedule may vary based on program needs. Provide individual and group advising to current community college and newly admitted and enrolled STEM transfer students at CSUF in multiple modalities (in-person and virtual appointments, email, workshops, presentations). Support academic planning by helping students understand degree requirements, transfer preparation, major/minor pathways, and relevant academic policies. Participate in and support STEM-specific orientation and advising sessions and other transfer transition programming. Work with NSM and ECS student success teams and campus partners to support Project RAISE-related programming and orientation. Collaborate with community college counselors and program leadership to support STEM transfer success. Conduct and/or coordinate workshops and group sessions related to transfer, onboarding, academic success, and resource navigation. Refer students to appropriate campus resources (e.g., admissions, financial aid, disability support services, TAPP center, career services, tutoring/academic support). Participate in transfer outreach (e.g., transfer fairs, counselor meetings) and serve as an information liaison for community college counselors. Collaborate with community college partners and CSUF faculty and staff to support CSUF campus visits highlighting STEM academic, research, and career opportunities. Student Record Review and Interventions Develop and maintain current course maps for CSUF majors in NSM and ECS for partner colleges to aid in major preparation and recommended course sequencing, in collaboration with community college counselors, program leadership, and CSUF advising staff. Review Titan Degree Audit and other student records to determine degree progress and support accurate academic planning. Coordinate immediate and effective assistance to STEM students using basic interviewing / counseling techniques. Work across NSM and ECS departments and relevant university and college offices to respond to advisement-related issues and support accurate advisement resources. Data Tracking, Reporting, and Grant Outcomes Maintain accurate, confidential records of student interactions, activities, and referrals. Use campus advising and data analytic tools (e.g., Titan Degree Audit, TitanNet, Assist.org, or similar), to generate reports and monitor outcomes. Collect, compile, analyze, and present data; provide data-informed recommendations to improve services, increase retention, and reduce equity gaps. Provide reports on students supported, challenges experienced, and outcomes to program leadership. Program Services and Other Duties Engage in on-going training at CSUF and partner colleges related to advising and curriculum. Participate in program meetings and advisory board meetings, as assigned. Finalize and support outreach and engagement materials focused on advising (communications, website updates, social media) as assigned. Other duties as assigned. Ability to use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and implementing improvements; work independently and manage multiple responsibilities; perform demands of tasks in a fast-paced environment. Ability to obtain information through interviews; reason logically; collect, compile, analyze, and evaluate data; make verbal and written presentations based on data. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, administrators, staff, students, and external partners. Excellent oral and written communication skills that demonstrate correct grammar usage, syntax, editing and format, with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively to a diverse group of people. Ability to interact, communicate verbally and in writing, and develop effective presentations in dealing with higher education faculty and administrators and project participants. Proven ability to understand and interpret materials and data and to formulate and present oral and written material in a logical and comprehensive manner. Basic computer skills including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Outlook, Google Suite, Zoom, Dropbox, Canva, social media, and student information systems. Willingness to travel between CSUF and community college campuses, as required. Education Minimum bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university. Physical Demands Prolonged sitting in front of computer. Walking, talking, hearing, pulling, bending, may carry 10-15 pounds of objects/material, not exposed to extreme noise level, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands or arms, stoop, kneel, taste or smell.
