Public Health Nurse I

Job Summary Advertisement Closes: 06/19/2026 12:00 AM. Pay Grade: Grade 17 – Salary: $20.30-$25.24 hourly. Time Type: Full time. Health Department: Harlan County Health Department. Provides entry‑level nursing functions and services to individuals and families under close supervision in a clinic or community setting. Responsibilities Conduct nursing assessments and assist with community assessments and epidemiological investigations using CCSG service guidelines; Develop and implement a plan of care based upon identified health risks; Provide basic nursing care to clients consistent with the Core Clinical Service Guide, Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice, and established policies, procedures and licensing laws; Document services provided according to CCSG and Administrative Reference (AR) standards; Maintain confidentiality and privacy according to guidelines; Develop and conduct educational counseling and teaching activities for individual clients, families, and communities; Provide or assist in providing nursing services to at‑risk or high‑risk populations or populations with limited access to care. Qualifications Must have an RN license in Kentucky or a compact state or a provisional license in Kentucky that meets all KRS 314.041 requirements and is approved to practice as a Registered Nurse (RNA). Post‑employment requirement to maintain current RN licensure in Kentucky or a compact state and complete required annual updates. Additional Requirements May be required to submit to a drug screening test and background check according to agency policies. Probationary Period This position has an initial and promotional probationary period of six months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
