Summary The Community Engagement Coordinator supports opioid and stimulant use disorder prevention efforts in Boyle Heights and Skid Row through community engagement, prevention education, targeted outreach, service linkage, and partnership development. The position engages people experiencing homelessness (PEH), justice-involved individuals, housed and unhoused community members, and other populations at increased risk of substance-related harm. The Coordinator provides substance use prevention education focused on opioids, stimulants, polysubstance use, overdose and fentanyl-related risks, and available treatment and recovery resources. The position works closely with Community Outreach Court, providers, and community partners to improve access to services and strengthen prevention efforts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 1. Engage community members and administer surveys and other assessment tools to identify emerging needs and service gaps. 2. Provide education on opioid, stimulant, and polysubstance use, overdose prevention, fentanyl awareness, treatment options, and recovery resources. 3. Engage people experiencing homelessness, justice-involved individuals, and other populations at increased risk of substance-related harm and connect them with appropriate services and resources. 4. Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with interim housing, healthcare, substance use disorder treatment, and mental health providers, as well as other community partners to ensure timely access to health services. 5. Provide educational information to PEH, community members, and other stakeholders about Social Model Recovery Systems’ substance use and mental health treatment options. 6. Engage Community Outreach Court participants and provide service linkage, warm handoffs, and connections to appropriate resources. 7. Collect, manage, and report de-identified program data and participant data in accordance with contract, evaluation, and organizational requirements. 8. Maintain accurate records of program activities and submit timely monthly reports with supporting documentation for internal and external stakeholders, including funders and community partners. 9. Collaborate with the Evaluation team to collect and review data, monitor outcomes, identify trends, and support program improvement. 10. Respond to crises involving referred individuals to assist in the ongoing success of those served. [ZC1] 11. Assist in developing and improving processes that strengthen access to treatment and other supportive services for PEH and justice-involved individuals.. 12. Assist in compiling and analyzing data to track program outcomes, monitor trends, and identify areas for improvement. 13. Perform additional duties or special projects as needed to support organizational and programmatic objectives. 14. Participate in supervision, staff meetings, required training, program planning, and quality improvement activities, and perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience 1. A bachelor's degree in public health, public policy, social sciences, or a related field from an accredited college or university. 2. A minimum of one year of experience supporting substance use prevention efforts through community outreach, public education, and strategies that advance systems or policy change. 3. Experience working with diverse populations and building community partnerships is preferred.

Language and Communication Skills 1. Fluency in English is required; bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English preferred. 2. Must be able to speak effectively before key stakeholders and at public gatherings. 3. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required.

Other Requirements 1. A valid government-issued photo ID. 2. If employee uses his/her personal vehicle to commute to work and/or parks on Agency property, a current California driver’s license is required. a. If employee has an out-of-state driver’s license, he/she must attain a valid California license no later than 10 days from employment start date. b. Must maintain current liability insurance coverage on personal vehicle. c. On occasion, the employee may use their personal vehicle to attend meetings, trainings, events, or conferences.
