HR Generalist

Boart Longyear is seeking a detail-oriented, organized, and communicative HR Generalist to join our U.S. Drilling Services team in Salt Lake City, Utah. This role provides broad, hands-on HR support across the employee lifecycle, including employee relations support, recruiting coordination, onboarding, HR administration, benefits assistance, compliance activities, and performance management support.

This role is well-suited for a highly organized, detail-oriented professional with strong communication skills and a desire to build a career in Human Resources. We are looking for someone who demonstrates the ability to learn quickly, take initiative, and grow into increasing levels of responsibility over time. Candidates with experience in Human Resources, as well as those with transferable skills from fields such as Environmental Health & Safety, education, training, operations, or other roles requiring strong documentation, compliance, coordination, and stakeholder engagement are encouraged to apply.

The HR Generalist serves as a trusted first point of contact for employees and managers, ensuring HR processes are executed accurately, consistently, and in alignment with company policies and employment laws.

Key Responsibilities

Employee Relations & HR Support

  • Serve as a first point of contact for employee and manager HR questions, providing timely, accurate, and professional guidance in alignment with company policies.

  • Support intake and documentation of employee relations matters, ensuring issues are captured clearly and routed appropriately.

  • Partner closely with HR leadership on employee relations cases by coordinating information, gathering relevant facts, and assisting with documentation of findings.

  • Escalate complex, sensitive, or high-risk matters to HR leadership with clear context and supporting details.

  • Assist in and leads workplace investigations by participating in fact-gathering activities, documenting interviews or notes, maintaining confidentiality, and supporting consistent and fair resolution processes.

  • Develop capability in employee relations through exposure to case work, coaching from HR leadership, and participation in progressively more complex matters over time.

  • Support manager guidance and coaching by helping reinforce HR policies, documentation standards, and consistent application of practices across the organization.

Recruiting & Onboarding Support

  • Support recruiting activities as needed including job postings, resume screening, interview coordination, candidate communication, and offer preparation support.

  • Serve as a backup resource for recruiting and HR Coordinator activities as needed.

  • Coordinate onboarding and orientation processes in partnership with HR team members to ensure a smooth, accurate, and welcoming new hire experience.

  • Support completion of onboarding documentation, system setup, and required new hire processes.

HR Operations & HRIS Administration

  • Maintain accurate employee records in Dayforce HRIS, including job changes, compensation updates, status changes, and personal data.

  • Support HR data integrity through routine checks and participation in quarterly audits.

  • Assist with compensation and job change processes by preparing documentation and coordinating approvals.

  • Support offboarding processes, including documentation, system updates, and record retention.

  • Support HR compliance requirements including I-9 administration, policy acknowledgments, required postings, and training completion tracking.

Benefits & Leave Support

  • Assist employees with benefits questions and enrollment support.

  • Coordinate leave administration in partnership with the Payroll and Benefits teams

  • Help ensure employees understand available benefit programs and direct them to appropriate resources when needed.

Performance & Training Support

  • Support performance management processes including review cycles, goal-setting reminders, and documentation tracking.

  • Assist managers with performance documentation and process guidance.

  • Support coordination of training programs including compliance training, manager training, and employee learning initiatives.

Employee Experience & Communication

  • Serve as a trusted, approachable HR contact for employees, ensuring clear, professional, and consistent communication.

  • Support employee engagement and retention initiatives through execution of HR processes and manager support.

  • Partner with managers on workforce planning discussions and employee development tracking.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (required).

  • 2–4+ years of experience in HR, or a related people-focused role, or operational role.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally across all levels of the organization.

  • Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly, adapt, and grow in a dynamic role.

  • High level of integrity and ability to handle confidential information appropriately.

  • Basic understanding of HR practices, employment laws, and HR compliance requirements.

  • Experience with HRIS systems (Dayforce or similar preferred).

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).

Preferred Qualifications

  • SHRM-CP or PHR certification (nice to have; not required).

  • Experience supporting field, operations, industrial, or distributed workforce environments.

  • Exposure to recruiting, employee relations, onboarding, or HR compliance processes.

  • Experience in leading investigations
