Band Saw Operator – 1st & 2nd Shift (Temp-to-Hire)Houston, TX 77021 (Must live within 10–15 miles of location)$18-$19 per hour (based on experience)Temp-to-HirePosition SummaryWe are seeking an experienced Band Saw Operator to join a large steel manufacturing and distribution operation in Houston. This role is responsible for accurately cutting metal materials using horizontal band saws and/or cold saws while maintaining safety, quality, and production standards. This position operates in a heavy industrial, open-air steel manufacturing environment where employees work around large steel beams, pipe, tubing, rebar, overhead cranes, industrial forklifts, production equipment, and semi-truck traffic. Candidates must be comfortable working in a physically demanding environment while maintaining constant awareness of workplace hazards and following all safety procedures. This is a temp-to-hire opportunity with consistent hours and potential for overtime.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesOperate horizontal band saws and/or cold saws to cut metal materials to specified lengthsSet up saws, including selecting and adjusting feeds and speeds based on material grade and cut requirementsAccurately read and interpret tape measurements, work orders, cut lists, and production documentationIdentify and work with various metal material gradesVerify measurements and finished cut lengths for accuracyPerform basic equipment inspections and report mechanical or safety concernsSafely move and stage materials for processingWork around large steel products including beams, tubing, pipe, rebar, and structural materialsWork safely around overhead cranes, forklifts, moving industrial equipment, and truck trafficMaintain awareness of pinch points, moving machinery, suspended loads, and loading operationsMaintain a clean and organized work areaFollow all safety procedures, quality standards, PPE requirements, and company policiesCollaborate with warehouse and production personnel to meet daily production goalsWork EnvironmentThis position is located in a large open-air, non-climate-controlled steel manufacturing and distribution facility. The environment is loud, active, fast-paced, and physically demanding. Employees must remain alert and maintain constant awareness of their surroundings due to potential hazards.Employees Regularly Work AroundStructural steel beams, pipe, tubing, and rebar, horizontal band saws and cutting equipment, overhead cranes carrying suspended loads, industrial forklifts, semi-trucks and trailer loading operations, heavy manufacturing equipment, large quantities of metal materials moving throughout the facilityRequired QualificationsProven experience operating horizontal band saws and/or cold saws, strong understanding of feeds and speeds for cutting applications, experience cutting metal materials, ability to accurately read tape measures and measurements, experience reading work orders, cut lists, and production documentation, prior experience in a warehouse, manufacturing, fabrication, metal service center, or industrial environment, ability to work consistently on assigned shift, ability to safely work around heavy materials and industrial equipment, strong commitment to workplace safety, ability to work in an open-air, non-climate-controlled manufacturing environmentPreferred QualificationsExperience in a metal service center or metals distribution operation, experience cutting steel, aluminum, tubing, pipe, or structural materials, experience with overhead cranes and material handling equipment, forklift experience, familiarity with production schedules and material handling processes, strong attention to detail and commitment to qualityWork Schedule & OvertimeMonday through Friday, 40 hours per week, overtime may be available based on workload (not guaranteed), occasional weekend work when business needs requirePhysical RequirementsAbility to stand for extended periods, ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without assistance, ability to bend, stoop, twist, and work in a warehouse/manufacturing environment, ability to safely handle materials throughout the shift, manual dexterity to operate machinery safely and accurately, ability to work in a physically demanding industrial environmentEquipment UsedHorizontal band saws, cold saws, sit-down forklifts, overhead cranes, measuring devices and gauges, material handling equipment, production and warehouse equipmentWhat We're Looking ForCandidates located within 10–15 miles of Houston, TX 77021, reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic, honest and accountable team players who take ownership of their work, strong safety mindset, experience in steel, metal, manufacturing, fabrication, warehouse, or industrial operations, ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced production environment, willingness to learn and support team objectives, comfortable working around large moving equipment, overhead cranes, and heavy materials, ability to remain safety-focused in a high-hazard industrial setting, employment is contingent upon successfully passing a background check, drug screen, and physical examination.
