Chef Assistant

The Chef Assistant supports the Head Chef/Chef in the daily preparation and cooking of meals for the camp workforce at HKN's Rmilan Field, Syria. The role involves food preparation, cooking support, and maintaining hygiene and cleanliness in the kitchen, ensuring meals are prepared safely, efficiently, and to the standard set by the Head Chef/Chef.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

Assist the Head Chef/Chef with daily food preparation, including washing, cutting, and marinating ingredients.
Help ensure meals are prepared and served on time for all scheduled meal periods.
Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of all work surfaces, utensils, and kitchen equipment.
Assist with receiving, checking, and properly storing food deliveries.
Support correct rotation (FIFO) and labelling of stock to prevent spoilage.
Assist with portioning and plating of food to maintain consistent presentation standards.
Follow HACCP and food hygiene protocols at all times during preparation and cooking.
Support kitchen stock checks and report shortages to the Head Chef/Chef.
Assist with dishwashing and general kitchen cleaning during peak service periods when required.
Report any equipment faults, hygiene concerns, or safety hazards to the Head Chef/Chef immediately.
Support the Baker/Pastry with bread or pastry-related tasks as required.
Wear correct PPE and follow the camp dress and hygiene code at all times.
Assist with special event, VIP, or dietary-specific catering as directed.
Participate in training sessions on food safety, hygiene, and kitchen procedures

Minimum Qualifications:

Previous experience as a kitchen helper, cook's assistant, or similar role is preferred.
Basic understanding of food hygiene and safe food-handling practices.
Willingness to learn and follow instructions from the Head Chef/Chef.
Must be physically fit and able to work standing for extended periods.
Must be of legal age to work (18 years or older) as per applicable labour law.
Must hold a valid medical/health certificate ("Yellow Card") and be free from communicable conditions.
Willingness and ability to live and work in a remote field/camp environment.
Flexible to work rotational shifts, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends as required.
