Vice President of Finance

Working alongside AFS’s established Controller and accounting team, the VP of Finance will develop a clear, connected view of the company’s financial performance and outlook. The role combines rigorous analysis with practical execution: understanding the underlying records, building and improving models, working through unfamiliar issues, and helping business leaders make better decisions.

We are looking for someone with strong financial fundamentals, intellectual curiosity, and the determination to get to the answer. The successful candidate will be comfortable with incomplete information, ask thoughtful questions, learn quickly, and follow issues through to resolution. They will personally do the work while helping the CFO establish the processes, tools, and team needed as AFS grows.

This role offers broad exposure to the executive team and private equity sponsor, meaningful responsibility, and the opportunity to help shape the financial direction of the business.

Key responsibilities

Financial planning and modeling

• Take ownership of existing budgets, forecasts, and supporting models, understand their assumptions and sources, and improve their accuracy, usability, and consistency.
• Build and maintain an integrated three-statement model connecting the income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow, with clear operating assumptions and scenarios.
• Lead the annual budget, rolling forecasts, and long-range planning process in partnership with the CFO and business leaders.
• Translate customer activity, hiring plans, operating expenses, and investment decisions into financial outcomes.
• Identify risks and opportunities, quantify their impact, and recommend practical actions.

Financial analysis and management reporting

• Trace results from accounting records and supporting schedules through management, board, and lender reporting; investigate differences and resolve inconsistencies with the appropriate owners.
• Develop clear bridges between reported results, adjusted EBITDA, free cash flow, and ending cash.
• Establish useful reporting by function, revenue stream, and customer, including visibility into cost of revenue, gross margins, and operating expenses.
• Prepare monthly business reviews that explain performance against budget and forecast, highlight emerging issues, and identify decisions or actions required.
• Support the CFO in preparing board, sponsor, and lender materials, anticipating questions and providing well-supported answers.

Revenue and business partnership

• Develop customer-level forecasts that distinguish bookings, contracted and live recurring revenue, recognized revenue, billings, and collections.
• Work with Sales, Sales Operations, and Accounting to understand contract terms, pricing, renewals, implementation timing, and customer expansion opportunities.
• Partner with Professional Services leadership on project revenue, staffing, utilization, delivery costs, costs to complete, and profitability.
• Evaluate customer and product economics, including the effect of implementation timing and hosting or support costs on margins and cash.
• Help operating leaders assess hiring, vendor spending, pricing proposals, and product or technology investments, and track results against their business cases.

Cash planning and treasury support

• Partner with the Controller on weekly cash forecasting and develop a longer-range liquidity forecast integrated with the financial plan.
• Model working capital, customer payment timing, capital expenditures, debt service, and acquisition-related cash commitments.
• Support the CFO in evaluating financing needs, leverage, covenant headroom, and capital allocation.
• Investigate differences between forecast and actual cash flow and work with Accounting and business owners to improve visibility and cash conversion.

Financial systems and process improvement

• Work with Accounting and relevant systems partners to improve how NetSuite and other business systems support financial analysis and reporting.
• Understand the chart of accounts, department and entity mappings, and source data well enough to investigate issues and define practical improvements.
• Establish consistent metric definitions, documented assumptions, reconciliations, and clear preparation and review responsibilities.
• Reduce repetitive manual work through better data flows, reporting tools, and appropriate automation.
• Help the CFO prioritize additional finance capabilities and specialist support as the business develops.

Strategic initiatives and execution

• Support acquisition evaluation, financial diligence, and integration through modeling, analysis, and coordination with internal and external teams.
• Incorporate acquired businesses into forecasts and reporting, and track integration costs, synergies, and performance against the investment case.
• Take ownership of financial and operational questions that cross functional boundaries, from defining the problem and gathering information through recommending and implementing a solution.
• Manage competing priorities, communicate progress and obstacles early, and ensure commitments are completed.

What we’re looking for

• Strong financial analysis and modeling skills, including the ability to build, understand, and troubleshoot integrated three-statement models.
• A solid accounting foundation and a clear understanding of revenue recognition, deferred revenue, working capital, capitalization, and the relationship between earnings and cash.
• Demonstrated ability to investigate unfamiliar issues, work through imperfect data, and reach a sound, supportable conclusion.
• Resourcefulness, persistence, and personal ownership: someone who identifies the next step, finds the right information or expertise, and follows through.
• The ability to learn a business and its systems quickly and translate that understanding into useful analysis and practical improvements.
• Strong communication and relationship skills, with the confidence to work with executives, sponsor professionals, and operating teams; challenge assumptions respectfully; and raise issues with proposed solutions.
• Advanced Excel skills, attention to detail, and the judgment to distinguish material issues from items that do not warrant the same level of effort.
• A willingness to work directly in the details and take responsibility for recurring deliverables as well as special projects.

Relevant backgrounds and additional experience

• Candidates may come from investment banking, private equity, transaction advisory, corporate finance, FP&A, or a combination of these disciplines. We value demonstrated capability, judgment, and learning speed across different career paths.
• Experience in a software or recurring-revenue business, a private equity-backed environment, or a finance function undergoing significant change is valuable.
• Familiarity with NetSuite or another ERP, financial reporting tools, treasury, and acquisition integration is a plus. Candidates should be comfortable developing expertise in areas they have not yet owned directly.
• A bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field is expected. An MBA or CPA is a plus.

During the first year, the VP of Finance will help establish:

• Internally owned forecasts and reporting, with clear responsibilities and a reliable operating cadence.
• An integrated financial model that explains the connection between business activity, profitability, and cash.
• Better visibility into customer economics, services profitability, departmental spending, and liquidity.
• Trusted partnerships with Accounting and business leaders, with finance involved early in important decisions.
• Practical improvements to systems and processes that make the finance function more effective and support AFS’s growth.
